I hope they throw the book at him :(
But Vancouver will not miss him anywhere near as much as Boston will miss Horton who is gone for the rest of the playoffs too with a severe concussion. |

Nasty hit by Storm there. Play the puck not the man. Even I know that!
However, you can only play the man with the puck. The Rome hit was punishable because it was late - a second after Horton had played it. |

"I probably viewed it like most of you did," Murphy said. "I thought it was a late hit, I thought the body was contacted, but I also thought the head was hit and it caused a serious injury to Nathan Horton. So the key components are the late hit and I had it close to a second late -- we have out own formula at NHL hockey (operations) for late hits -- and it was late and we saw the seriousness of the injury with Nathan on the ice. "That is basically what we deliberated on. We tried to compared it with some of the other ones in the past, but it stands alone and that is why we made the ruling." http://communities.canada.com/vancou...oncussion.aspx |

I'm starting to understand why some cradles I know don't like hockey.
What would be a penalty during the regular season gets ignored during the playoffs. Sometimes it seems like something like what happened to Horton has to happen before a penalty is called. I know that is an extreme example but really the referees let far more go during the playoffs than than they do during the regular season. This happens in all levels of professional hockey and in major junior as well. |
Re: I hate the Bruins
NHL Ice Hockey should be renamed 'Goons 'R' us'....

I don't know about your cradle friends but one of the things I really dislike about hockey is that when the playoffs start the game morphs into something totally different to what it is during the regular season.

I take it I missed the pleasure of watching yet another piece of unforgivable and mindless brutality last night?

I think it's just the culture around hockey, the violence, that turns them off. One of them will not let her sons play. The NHL needs to get their act together. I saw the vid of Horton - he did not look 'right' at all :(
Not that I care. |

Which shows that you know very little at all. If you knew anything about hockey you would know that playing the man, not the puck, is a normal part of defensive play.

It seems quite the ridiculous suspension, especially when compared to other incidents in the NHL. The trouble is that the injury is being overplayed versus the act of the hit - the media have taken it and ran. The Lucic punch to the side/back of Burrows' head was very similar to what Bertuzzi did a few years back which got him a 20 game suspension. The NHL seems to be acting on outrage of an injury, rather than intent to injure and dangerous play (which itself is rather interesting seeing their hands off approach after the Chara-Pacioretty broken neck incident). |

Last time I lived in Canada (Vancouver) it was all about Todd Bertuzzi which I recall being a nasty business. I assume he never played again.
Not that I care. Believe it or not, if memory serves he was picked for Team Canada (by Manager Wayne Gretzky) in spite of the matter you refer too....only in Canadian Hockey eh? |

According to Sportsnet - they frame by framed the sequence, and it was about 0.4 of a second late according to the NHL's supposed allowance of a hit until 0.5 seconds after the puck has gone, and anythin after being a grey area.
