Life has become enriched by discussion forums. Think back less than 10 years and realise how many questions like this went unanswered due to the internet's infancy. Rejoice in the trivia we are now able to wallow in.
Of course, you're correct Novo - most of the crap in The Maple Leaf could be better discussed in the chat room or via PM's. It all becomes white noise after a while.

If indeed that is the case, then why are you not concerned that the present government allegedly violated Election Canada's laws on campaign financing at the same instant that they were running on an "accountability" ticket and accusing the then Chretien/Martin Liberals of corruption in Quebec?

Sorry I have let this thread spin in the wind for a whole hour, but the dog needed a walk. (and so did I).
Name my subject and you're my woman? I'll not go there....
Oh, let me think.
Is anyone interested and/or disturbed by the news that the Conservative Party of Canada is under investigation for election financing fraud?
No, didn't think so,

No, didn't think so,
You went to take the dog for a walk, me to my bed.
Question of forums. Forums are created by their members. If the posts are light-hearted or crap (depending on your perspective), then who's to blame? Oh yes, we all are, because we create them. If we want to discuss something more stimulating, then it's down to.....well, us, to set up the thread. No one else.
If some of the light-hearted stuff would be better elsewhere, then that's probably ignorance on the part of people like me, who are relatively new and not familiar with the forum. However, we also have moderators who, if they feel a thread is in the wrong spot, will work their jiggerypokery to move it around as if by magic.
Personally, a bit of light-hearted banter never hurt anyone. Life's too short to get het up about it, well it is for me. Does it matter if it's filed under the wrong label? Really?
Onto the political issues, of corruption, hypocrisy and the cynicism with the system which follows. For my sins I'm still in Bucks, so I can't claim to be an expert, but I do follow the news online on the Globe and Mail site (anyone recommend other sources?), and it is alarming for me to see RCMP guys going into the offices of major political parties, if a little familiar? Remember all the Blair mallarky? Running on an 'accountability' ticket while fudging the books to expand your ad spend (which seems to be their promotional tool of choice), and accusing the Liberals of corruption in Quebec? Might shoot them in the foot even within the party if guys like the their local chap from Labrador cut off links with them as a result.
I would be interested to see Canadian views on the matter. Rather than flag the issue amongst the Hob Nobs and Jammy Dodgers, why not start a new thread?
Hope that doesn't p*ss you off too much.

I think he's confusing BE with his Grauniad. He should go there if he doesn't want hobnobs or underwear.

Grumpy, me? Obnoxious? Well, I try. And nothing agrees with me very much.
To be honest, while I like this forum and many of the posters on here, I think I have detected a severe downturn in recent times. rae, off-topic means not directly related to immigration or living in Canada etc. Certainly meaningless drivel is not forbidden (thank dog) but it is increasingly tedious these days.

off topic is exactly what this is, general rubbish, biscuits not being generally related to immigration or living in canada, unless a lack of hobnob appreciation societies really would destroy your world of course.
if its becoming that tedious maybe you need a break. bringing up political discussions on here, when there is a specific place for anything political, religious, contentious etc on the forum, just smacks of you trying to sound superior mate.
now pass me my hobnob.
