Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?
ABC aired 2 remake episodes tonight, an episode of All in the Family and The Jeffersons. They used the original script, although ABC censored a couple words on the Jeffersons episode that are not suitable for today. Biggest surprise was Marla Gibbs who played Florence in the original series, played the same character tonight, which was a surprise.
Jennifer Hudson sang the opening song for The Jeffersons.

I've searched, huffed and puffed, but I haven't found any mention of Outsiders
Anybody else watched this?
Anybody else watched this?
As for The Outsiders, I can't say I recall a mention of it so far.

It is well worth a watch, shame it got canned after just two series - which likely had a hand in the writers' plot shift towards the third quarter of season two.
It covers quite a few topics/issues/things, albeit somewhat obliquely such as:

Not sure if its been mentioned on this thread before now, but I have just started watching "Afterlife" with Ricky Gervais, now Ricky Gevais is quite a divisive character, but I have always like his stuff....his brand of humour is quite real and hostile, which is very British, and of course the cringey element. I loved extras, and this new series afterlife is very him, just a different set if circumstances.
It also has some quite serious dark moments in too for a comedy, over all I am enjoying it. However one thing that has really put me off it is the excessive use of the C word....I find that such a horrible word that makes me wince everytime I hear it. It is very rarely used in movies, let alone a TV series, and this show is using it to excess, for me its took the shine off an other wise very good series. Maybe I am little old fashioned in that way, but just cannot see the justification of its use in this series

I watched a bit of All in the Family, but couldn't get into it; as is the case when comparing movies to books, the original is better in so many cases. Full marks to Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei, but they can't be the same as Carol O'Connor and Jean Stapleton.

Something called "Chernobyl" is being advertised on Sky Italia as coming soon (June) ...... but I know that my USA friends are already watching it. Any good?

I'm quite enjoying Chernobyl, if only because it's forcing me to do a bunch of reading about the topic. I wish the color palette wasn't quite so 'gray', but I guess that's part of the atmosphere they are trying to create. I had no idea that the initial explosion event of Chernobyl occurred during a test of emergency procedures! They wanted to test to see if they could handle a complete lack of power for about 40 seconds between loss of grid power and the generators coming fully online ... seems like they mis-managed the test rather spectacularly! It's a fascinating story.

Watched the first episode this evening, will most definitely be following on.
The stereotypes are very well done, the campsite is so Limburg, even down to the karaoke, in fact it looks very similar to a place we long-weekended at a couple of years ago.

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?
There are a few posts about this on the previous page ... this is what I posted ...
I've seen 3 episodes so far and I'm really enjoying it. I've learned about old russian style reactors, test procedures (and how not to execute them ), and got a good insight into the pervasive influence of the KGB ... in one scene, they lock up their most knowledgeable nuclear scientist (someone they desperately need to help deal with the disaster) because she 'said the wrong thing' ... everyone is watching everyone, no-one trusts anyone ... Very interesting! I'm away for the next 2 weeks so will miss the conclusion.

Yes it was well liked. Excellent show.
You may find this from the guardian a couple of days ago of interest.

Yes thats an Interesting article in the Guardian....it seems we have Game of Thrones to blame! I guess as that is emulating olde English times it could almost be justified, but even then only to a point. After life was a very good series funny and dark a t the same time, but that was just used way to many times and spoilt it for me. It was a typical Ricky Gervais show, his pervious TV series didn't find the need to have that word in, so why this one....and so many times....maybe he had been watching Games of Thrones a lot, and wanted in on the act. Some words are best reserved for extreme profanity and thats where they should stay IMHO.

Presumably his earlier shows were all mainstream TV whereas this one was Netflix.
Mind you...some of the language used in BBC's gentle comedy 'Mum' is surprising.
