gays not welcomed

I believe that kind of gym is set up as a club, and as such can be selective. Hotels offer services to the public, and cannot be selective.

Not just Gyms....try women only races (5k,10k, half marathon et al). Yes they are springing up all over the place...the females in my running group don't get it, and think it's just ludicrous considering there are already different categories at races...male/female top finishers, age groups, and qualifying times
On a different note though, we now have a one standard fitness test for both genders in the military

That is not the issue and never has been
But it is fine and dandy to recognize collective rights (the homosexuals), but not so of individual rights (hotel owners)? After all, it is not as if these people could not find alternative accommodation.

The owners do not want homosexual guests and they may be losing money needlessly but because of personal convictions, and many here will disagree, they do not look at it in purely financial terms

"homosexuals" today, others tomorrow? It's like taking steps back to where we've already been..... ala segregation
Whites to the left, everyone else to the right

Your response is what I have been looking for and you write eloquently for although I knew the answer all along.
Which is that in practical terms some rights triumph over others
All for the greater good philosophy
I will sometimes intentionally play devil's advocate and take a contrary position
And the responses so far on this thread have been highly predictable but at the same time very interesting

There's hotels in Australia and South Africa that advertise themselves as "gay friendly", happily scooping up the business from those who don't want it.

So if they ran a corner shop could they refuse to serve gay people? It's the same thing.
