Hotel is opens its door to trade with the public, by law they cant pick and choose,
but Yes I still have my qualms..for instance I couldwatch a man and women kiss
In public, and pubs, walk by two gays kissing in the park, no thought,
Be in a hotel lounge relaxing with family, No I still wouldnt like to see 2 gays
Kiss and cuddle...2 gay politicians
Get over it.

There is something strange about your line justification.

Ok...now tell me this, if you were a non smoker and all of a sudden you find yourself in public, and joe blow comes along and lights one a cigarette in front of you...would your reaction be the same to the one you described above?

Montreal Mike.....you said this "i see the point but it is their hotel after all isn't it?". Am guessing you have kids, brothers and sisters? If what you are saying is, and am assuming here? That in this day and age bigotry has a place?

What would you do if you son/daughter/brother/sister starts dating or marries someone that looks different?
Homosexuals are fine. They have been around for thousands of years and are part of the human condition. So it is not a matter of being anti-homosexual.

I am merely being the devil's advocate and am simply asking myself why the rights and wishes and beliefs of the owners of the hotel are of no consequence whereas the rights of the homosexual couple are paramount?

After all, the homosexuals are free go elsewhere

It boils down to the state intervening and deciding which rights shall prevail: Individual Rights or Collective Rights

That is the only point I am raising.

PS. some landlords will refuse rentals to pet owners and smokers. Is this discrimination? I think not. If I am not wanted I can go find a landlord who will accept pets and smokers

What part of the word "discrimination" do you not understand? The right that the state is choosing to prevail is equality.

And some building only take "seniors" renters....Ageism perhaps.

Smoking is now illegal in most indoors places in Ontario...emphasis on most here! It could be everywhere...but I'll leave it open

To the stuff in BOLD: That is because what the hotel owners are doing is called discrimination. The town/city can easily pull their operating licence to shut them down if they aren't going to cater to everyone am sure

To Shard and ultrarunner

So are you are telling me the rights of the hotels owners do not count?

On the surface it is indeed discrimination but isn't the equation a bit lopsided?

Service dogs apart, people don't need to be pets owners, nor do they need to smoke. Pets and cigarette smoke cause dirt, muck.

Not really the same now is it?

Playing devil's advocate a little here, but how can we have women only gyms? How is that not (legally speaking) discriminating towards men?

Why is it lopsided? What's the problem? Do you not accept that gay people are equal to straight people ?

I agree here (being a non-smoker myself and having no pets), but if not, and I were turned down on a rental, I would always go elsewhere, couldn't I?

They are running a business, you can't turn away customers because you don't like them being gay, or short, or foriegn, or Catholic, or carnivores, or disabled. I wonder if they ran through the 10 Commandments with all guests, or maybe checked compliance with Leviticus?
