Well, the new Apple Watch has been announced. They did mention quite a bit about the health side of it, so it could well be of use as a fitbit replacement, however, you do need a compatible iPhone to use it (presumably because it syncs things and some of the "apps" on it, or that will be written for it, don't actually install as "apps" they're app extensions), I believe iPhone 5 or above will work with it.

Another testament to the awesomeness of Fitbit: I finally heard back from customer services and they are replacing my Fitbit for free.
I told them it was entirely my fault that I wore it swimming, and I had originally just asked if they offered replacements at a discount for doofuses like me who accidentally bugger theirs. They are instead sending me a new one for free. I'll get it next week.
Score one for outstanding customer service.

A friend of mine lost hers - TWICE - and they replaced it FOC both times. I knew they had replaced hers which was why I emailed, really pleased with their customer service!Steppysteppysteppy. It's been 12 days I've been sans Fitbit, can't wait to get the replacement!

My UP band has died after a few weeks. This is tedious. I will get in touch with them when I get back from vacay and see what they say.

That is impressive! Just got mine (thanks for the tips Schnooks) and it's a great little device & software. I too didn't realise how gamified it is either. Those are some serious badges Monique!

thanks everyone......I don't see it as gamified really.....I have no one else to compete with, yes you can add friends to motivate you....and have had a few over the year of having it, but they have either given up or lost their fitbits....so its just me, I just see it as a device that keeps me moving and motivated, and it works for me, its common sense really, you eat less calories than you burn you "WILL" loose weight.....i since I have had it I have taken 6 cruises and a trip to the UK and a trip to New Zealand and each time put weight on...and have straight back and lost it again.....i have been over weight almost all my life....and now at 49 feel the best I ever have felt....I have gotten so much fitter.....someone said in an earlier post that it wont make you fit....well thats just bollox.........I could barely walk 10 mins without it hurting my legs....I avergae 25-30 steps a day....which is about 12 miles....just walking.....I don't run.....but recently did a 5 k run and nailed it.....and I got this fit from just walking......

Anyway, this fitbit looks like a "skinner box" app for walking. This is not a criticism at all; I play a lot of video games and I know how engaging a good well thought out reward schedule for completing otherwise repetitive tasks can be.

You don't need friends because it is using video game elements to motivate you. Filling progress bars and getting rewards (badges, trophies, levelling) for doing so at just the right intervals is a commom trope in many video games and it can be quite compelling.
