Yes, PM/Production Coordinator. Possibly FAD or SAD. Also, location manager.
I am aware that I have to start from the ground up, even with an education. But it should (hopefully) speed up the process.

I think it's plausible at 46, depending on what you want to do. TV direction? That's going to take a while. But if you want to make a film off your own bat, no reason why you can't. Just make it cheap so you don't have to find too much financing

I don't know about Toronto but even Colin Firth couldn't get his foot in Vancouver, it very incestuous and insular.

I recollect it from the infants - seriously I got the ruler at age 6/7! ridiculous - how does that demonstrate right from wrong.
(I had pacifist parents though, both teachers so I had early anti establishmentism)
Made no difference in my school, in fact it was a more a war story of who got most ruler, pump, cane, nr of times you could make a teacher lose it & throw the bd rubber at you etc. About 90 kids for the 7 school years so nothing was secret.
Went out sometime during primary at my school, pre UK ban, & made no difference at all - the kids who behaved did, those who didn't did not & dependent on teacher, boredom, weather etc.

As I said, I only know about Vancouver but I've people who do sound, camera work, production and none could break into industry here. They don't care about your experience or your skill level, just who are and who you know.

it's a union thing. if it's a union show union members come first, based on seniority. Non-union there's more chance. But yes, just like anywhere, it is based on your connections/relationships but it has been hard for everyone for a long time now = it's tough out there even with locals with connections. Also word of mouth - if you're crap people will avoid hiring you, whether you're a BE or not, what immigrants are up against is the unknown factor - maybe you were amazing in the UK, or maybe you're full of crap and difficult to work with. I don't honestly understand why people come to Vancouver thinking there's going to be more work

They are hardly going to say dont bother coming to Vancouver to work in the industry are they?

Well yes they do
but they also say its a great place to live and work and with all the other stuff I mentioned it just might lead one to believe that they can make it here.
Tourism Regina/Saskatchewan also say what a great place it is etc etc
but we all know what some BE posters think of that city & province

while here, you need a bachelors degree, be no older than 25, have no kids, and 10 years working experience to even be considered.
Good. People over 25 with children are past it.
Seriously, what part of "my industry" and "comes across to me" didn't you understand? I can only say what I have seen and heard and how I experience the differences. I am well open for being wrong.
What comes across to you is irrelevant if it's factually incorrect.
But if everything is so horrible in Canada and everything is so great in UK and Europe according to all of you who LEFT UK and Europe, why don't you just up sticks and move back?

Want to dazzle us with any more of your pearls of wisdom???
