I am sure there are plenty of people who the feel the same way as I do about England that are actually over here, living here, NOW.
Oh, and to whoever said I was tired last night, no, I really think you should do some research on the bbc, and then when you find out that it's run by puppets on a string then you can get back to me and apologise.
If you read any independant news here, or can be arsed to read the gaurdian (one of the left winged newspapers), you would realise that the news you get, isn't the entire story.
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_the_BBC for example.
while i'm here, maybe you should also look at:

Anyways, I want to move to Canada, this is my wish. I have special LOVE for the country because I am FROM Canada. I lived there for 25 years and it's my home. I came to this thread, to state why I feel that Britian is not a very good place to be at the moment, and if you've not lived there in 3 years time, you haven't seen the changes, and therefore shouldn't really comment.
I've lived in both countries for a considerable amount of time, and i have voted in both. I prefer Canada, and that should be the end of it. I'm not out to Flame people on the internet (unless provoked) but it does make me angry that so many people can say things like "Canadians are Boring" "Canadians don't understand irony" etc...You people are generalising. At least I can back my claims of Britian being worse than Canada at the moment with Facts.
Go and read the 2012 outlook on the royal banks website. Looks like more growth for Canada. Go read the statistics for unemployment and you'll see, things will get better for Canada. How about UK. WORSE. They are IN austerity measures for the next 10 years.

This thread gave me the biggest laugh I have had in ages, and believe me I needed one.

I moved to Canada in 2008 and returned to the UK four months ago, I love both places for different reasons. Neither place is Utopia, they both have their positives and negatives. The one thing I do hate is that people who generalise about either place. I went out to play pool the other night to a pub, typical estate pub that looked a bit dodgy. We walked through the door and promptly had to drop our preconceived ideas.

The bar maid welcomed us, within ten minutes one of the locals was chatting to us like long lost friends. A group of teenage lads came in and put some money down on the pool table, when we had finished our game, we let them play. We moved off and sat down, when the lads had finished their game, they came over and thanked us for letting them play.

We had left money on the pool table and when we returned it was still there. My house mate is black, male and has long dreaded hair, people look at him and make their mind up. Shame they don't know that he is head of Psychology at a prestigious school in Oxford.

I have had no issues since returning to England and to be honest I love it here, but then again I never hated it. I will return to visit Canada, and will love that as well.

Live and let live guys, and maybe some of you should take your rose tinted goggles off!

I don't think you will be missed in England. If you are looking for bland and boring Canada is for you. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Same here. Im planning on going back for a visit in 2013 and it will be 25 years since Ive set foot on British soil.
Do I have any any preconceived ideas of what to expect and how much or little the country has or has not changed that remains to be seen.
Im sure I will not be coming back and complaining that I couldnt get a Timmies, shop at Canadian Tire, etc etc.
Canada has its good and bad points much like the UK has.
Maybe some of you could answer the following questions?

Is it still about a 3 hour drive from Preston to London M6 M1 route
Is Tony Blackburn still a DJ on radio 1
Are hollands pies and steak puddings still as good
Will I be able to rent a Ford Capri and park it safely in Liverpool
Are Pans People, Hot Gossip and Hills Angels doing dance routines
Can I still go for a donkey ride on Blackpool beach
Im guessing with inflation that petrol is now about 3 quid a gallon
Can I still buy a 5 pound bag of spuds and a quarter of roast beef
Liverpool won the league in the 89-90 season have they won it since
Is it still safe to walk around Moss Side after dark
Are Londoners still warm and friendly to Northerners much like the GTA folk in Canada
Are there still only 4 TV channels

or am I really out of touch

Do you really not see the irony in your statements?! So by your reckoning, you're not qualified to comment on Canada either, as you haven't lived there for the past 3 years..............

Again - pot, kettle, black! You have generalised hugely about the UK, and don't see to think that's a problem, but when others do it about Canada you take issue?

Please look at your own posting style before criticising others for doing exactly the same as you. Everybody is entitled to their opinions, and if they think Canadians are boring, they are free to say so - just as you are free to claim that all English people are rude even though that's generalising too. You can't post one way and then be up in arms when others do the same!

Your ridiculous attempts at offending me won't work. Why don't you try to come up with a better arguement rather than "go home blah blah"...

Well to be fair, I have visited Canada since moving at least 6 different times, sometimes for a month or so at a time. I read the newspaper(s) from my local area and surrounding area on a daily basis and blogs and other things etc to try to keep up to date with what is going on there.
So, it's not living there, you're right, but I have been back serveral times for lengthy periods inbetween.
Also, yes, I agree, people are entitled to their own opinion, but when I started with my opinion, people were already out with their daggers at me. I have said in at least a few posts that this is JUST MY OPINION and that NOT ALL BRITISH PEOPLE are rude etc. But those things stated just get missed.

But how do you know that those who are giving an opinion on the UK haven't done exactly the same things? I'm sure that pretty much everybody on here still reads online UK newspapers, blogs, etc, and most certainly visit regularly too. My point is that you're telling people they can't comment because they haven't lived somewhere for 3 years and then doing exactly that yourself!

OK, so you're upset that people have said 'Canadians are boring', etc, because it's a generalisation. But how is that any different from you saying 'people [in England] are outrageously rude and stuck up their own asses'?

Of course it's your opinion, just as those that have said Canadians are boring are also giving *their* opinion.

As I said above, different strokes for different folks, and as long as nobody gets abusive, you're free to share your opinions. Just don't get upset when others then do the same about Canada!

I guess I was more referring to London than the WHOLE of England. So yes, for that, I apologise.
I totally agree people are allowed their opinion which is why I gave mine, and to be quite honest, i'm not overly offended by someones opinion of a Canadian, i just used that as an example of the ways people here have also generalised. So, i'm not the only guilty one of that.
I also agree about the abusive thing. I don't see a need for it either.

Come on, get a life, there are no-go areas in all cities and towns in any country, bet there are areas in all cities in Canada you wouldn't want to go to. There is one simple answer, if the area is dodgy, then keep away, no-one id forcing you to go there.

I go back to the UK every three months or so for three weeks.

I read newspapers on line.

I dont get into politics with people.

I am not particulary happy in Canada, but I dont come on here shouting the odds about it. I dont bad mouth Canadians or the Country, I will do my time here and leave, I wont slam the door on the way out.

I will repeat what I said in an earlier post. Go to the nearest airport and get a flight back to Toronto, you are clearly very unhappy in the UK so do something about it.

Obviously if I could leave I would have done. I am married and have obligations and so does he. Also, we have submitted the paperwork to move back, it's just a case of waiting out the time. Your advice is a bit angry yourself, you should perhaps calm down your orders.

I wouldn't go so far as to say having a chat on the internet in some forum about my dislike for London is "slamming the door on the way out". I would say however, that I will not be returning to the UK to live ever again.

Throughout my time in the UK, I have done a lot of travelling, and I am very thankful for that. After 4 years of travelling throughout Europe and to other countries, I can say I am satified with what I have seen. I am fortunate regardless of the outcome, that I had the opportunity to live in another country. It has def given me insight into different cultures and also, world politics ect.
