liquorice is good for colds, as a breath sweetner and number 1 use, against heartburn.

I take nexium for it, andyes, i've tried apple cider vinegar, banana's, broccoli, milk,e tc etc etc. and only two things work bar nexium and commercial antacids for a few minutes.

plenty of liquorice, as in a kilo a week type amounts (bear in mind i have bad, bad heartburn) and meadowsweet as a tea. Liquorice in sweet or tea form. Lovely! or sticks!

I once forgot my meds in holland and resigned myself to eating rennies like sweets..and got a big bag of liquorice, snacked on it a lot, hoping it would help..and I didn't need any antacids bar at night. A kilo a week doesn't fit weight watchers though.

no, seperately! and i don't even like banana's.

but they're folk remedies with no evidence before or against hem, but people keep citing them.

and htere are a few indivdiuals who have heartburn from too little acid for which more acid works, so hence 'it must work for everyone'.

after watching this thread for a while thought I'd put my 2 peneth in. I put on a few pounds when I first came to Canada cos we were living in a hotel for a month eating in  and I was treating the time as a holiday therefore in holiday mood if you know what i mean, eating and drinking at leisure and doing no exercise expect walking to the bar

That was last September; we then moved into our cottage and I joined a fitness class as much for the exercise as meeting local people. the instructor is good, I swear she checks out each week and thinks "what part of her shall we punish now" then continues to work us all to death :curse:. and I put up with this twice a week. As a result of this and eating a lot healthier ie more fresh foods rather than processed - hence I have lost 20 pounds in total.

I still have a drink and eat out when Mal gets back, so do not feel that I am depriving myself; that and the fact that my Grandchildren are not around to offer me sweets  :(

I wish everyone good luck and if you want Sandi's number for her to make you suffer then give me a shout

well done lorna on losing 20 lbs, i had a laugh about your fitness instructor as mine does just the same. She looks around the room at everyone as if shes thinking- ok she needs to tone her arms up or she needs those thighs toning and then makes us work those areas. its damn hard work at times but sooo worth the end result.

I agree, I know that I have lost inches in the areas I definitely needed to and what amazes me is I pay 1/4 the price I used to pay in Wales, and as the classes are smaller it seems more like a private lesson. We worked legs and arms on Wednesday and I am still aching :curse:

i must have been wearing a pair of particularly skinny-looking jeans yesterday at work as i had a couple of people comment on how i was looking, one was from a bloke who doesn't usually even seem to know what day it is and is always "too busy" to do anything we need so was very surprised by his compliment! :D

I fancy salsasize but there isn't a class that I know of. They are starting tai chi classes here next week and belly dancing in a town about 10 miles away. I have done some belly dancing but the instructor was a cheerleader so it wasn't that good, but apparently this instructor is the real deal. I've always fancied Tai Chi so I think I'll stick to that for the introducation class. I was always as glutton for punishment

Lorna, well done! that sounds like you feel much better

Flipflop: i had hair to my waist, then some evil bitch called A HAIRDRESSER decided to take off three foot when I asked for three inches. Now reading about canada weather and hair freezing off, i'm wondeirng if growing it long again is smart or not. :sneaky:

In Saskatchewan they say everyday is a bad hair day. It is either windy so your hair goes all over the place or too hot and your hair sticks to your face  so there is not happy medium you either have long hair so you can tie it back or short hair so it keeps out of your face either way its a loose loose situation
