Re: EXFATS WEIGH IN!

Hi Everyone,

I didn't weigh myself last week as I had stayed the same on the last weigh - but I weighed myself today & was pleased to see i'd lost 4 lbs over the last 2 weeks.

I also now have another reason for slimming down & getting fitter - at the weekend hubby & I collected a 7 month old border terrier that wasn't wanted to add to our family pets. I want to do agility with her but can't start her training until she is a year old, so I need to get fitter to do that & doing the agility will get me exercising as well as doing something fun with Lulu & developing a good relationship with her - i'm really not the sort to go to a gym, so finding a form of exercise I enjoy will be really good for me.

Keep at it everyone - you're all doing very well even if it is a 'stay the same' - at least it's not a 'plus'

Arris :D

This might interest some people. A selection of photos of people at various heights, weights and so BMIs to highlight just how meaningless scale weight thus BMI can be. I'm a bit evangelical, I know. :p

big  to everyone this week, well done everyone!

got my weigh-in tonight after 10 days in the GTA and surrounding area and 5 days back home on salad and grilled meat!!

am very pleased to come back with a half pound loss!! :D
and this with no exercise this week due to being loaded with cold :(

some interesting pics in that lot HWP! shows that even ratios like bmi aren't infallible! (i'm just in the overweight cat at just over 26, my target weight would put me at around 23.5, i'm probably average build not especially muscley (sp), i know i'll always be the same basic shape i.e. classic pear, whatever weight i am!)

have a good weekend everyone :D

Yep - well now I'm cheerful:( I'm Obese according to that and I thought I was doing something before I got to Obese - I thought I was just overweight:curse:

Get a grip, woman! :p ;)

The point of the pictures is to show that weight - the number on the scale - can be inaccurate. Having the weight and height measurements to give a BMI reading of, say, 'obese' can look very different depending on a person's physical make-up (their body's composition) - something that weight ignores.

Pound for pound, muscle takes up much less space in the body than fat does; muscle is dense, fat is fluffy. As people add muscle to their bodies and lose fat - as what hopefully happens when people eat well and workout - it is possible to get smaller while the number on the scale increases or stays the same.

I keep harping on about this because if people use scale weight as the sole judge of their progress they could very well be shooting themselves in the foot, or worse.

From my point of view, my evangelism is very positive and well meaning... perhaps I need to work on my delivery  as my intention is not to make anyone feel badly about themselves.

Honestly Peas, I do get what your saying and I do get that I have to turn my fluffy fat into dense muscle - which I must be achieving as tonight I am wearing jeans that I couldn't wear a month ago. I also know that it is not possible to turn 40lbs of fluffy fat into dense muscle (unless I want to look like one of those orange muscle builder women - sorry if I upset people with that comment:huh:) So I know at some point the figure on the scale HAS to go down - doesn't it?

I wish I could remember what my BMI was then I would post my poundage and stuff - but I did click on the larger lady piccies and one or two were very close to my numbers and they were Obese.

I must say I am really enjoying Curves and already feel younger - I was feeling so old before and I'm only 36. If only I could get the breakfast and water consumption going though:confused:

Hey your delivery is fine - not really about to hide in the bedroom and never come out again.

loads of on-line BMI calculators where all you have to do is input your height and weight, this is the one i used

OK according to that link my BMI is 31.81 - so I've a weigh (gettit?) to go. Just been to a craft fare and sampled - well they just shove the stuff under your nose and it's rude to say no, loads of delish stuff. I was very good though, I didn't buy the cowboy mix (peanuts, and crackers and stuff mixed to gether and chocolate coated), nor the cranberry xmas pud with butter sauce, nor did I buy the cheese ball mixes. But I did buy a massive tub of Saskatoon berry pie filling - fruit, just fruit, no bad stuff - who am I kidding. That way I make lots of individual pies instead of one big one that's got to be eaten straight away:thumbsup:

Have a good weekend everybody!

HUM - I've lost a total of 24 lbs - but according to that my bmi is still 29 making me overweight! :o
This is such hard work - I guess I'll have to lose at lease another 14 lbs to get within a normal range.
WHAT - no goodies for Christmas - sigh. :whatchutalkingabout

Of course. It just might not go down as soon, as low or as fast as desired or expected, especially if you're also relying on a good exercise program to get fit as 'getting fit' usually involves adding some muscle, and so, some weight (but muscle weight, not fat weight).

I have known people who have started working out, only to jump on the scales and see no weight loss and so quit their efforts. They relied only on scale weight as a measure of their progress and got discouraged. You, on the other hand, are going about it a better way by also using waist measurements, noting how your clothes are fitting better and that you're feeling younger and better.

My comments on this thread have not been necessarily directed at you Piff Poff… I'm evangelizing to all that will hear the message. I'm feeling the need for a pulpit and some runny mascara…

Me too about the water. Actually I'm not really convinced by the suggestions that we need to drink so much, tbh. And, I don't want to live my life having to think about where the closest loo is every hour.

I also know your not just talking about me and my weight loss but also trying to help all the other Exfats on here. Your advice is appreciated and I'm sure it's not just me that appreciates it.
