Good points. I think a parent's perspective is going to differ from a student's too. What would you class as mid life? They might be those with recent experience, albeit not as a student.

I suspect that this 15 year old has conducted himself far better than you would have at the age of 15.
The older farts on here all know more about life than Gozit; I accept that. But how many times do you need to keep going on about it? I suggest volunteering at your husband's practice.

I think The Gozit is better with numbers than he is letting on.
I'm sure he can figure some numbers out in his head reasonably just by his post articulation.
With regards to future earnings it is all relative. Money can provide some piece of mind but it does not buy happiness. There is even a marginal utility to going to Hooters where after a few pints the satisfaction curve flattens.
There is nothing wrong with an aspiration to earn $250k but one should also think about the trade off and sacrifices that are made to get there.
I'm very happy walking to work. Working just 6/7 hours a day and investing my time in the gym and socialising.
Many of my friends are Bay Street lawyers. All of them unhappy and disillusioned with the life style.
If you really want to line your pockets become an International Tax expert...bland exams that are a lot of work but well remunerated with out the 12 hour working days.
I apologies in advance for typo's and grammar. My brother is in town and last night was another messy one.

, his theory has come in handy a few times over the years in practice. I was educated in the UK, in a convent school. We learned about/explored all world religions.
I wouldn't want to be 15 again & yes, likely many of us 'old farts' are dinosaur thinkers.
I wonder if the mid life to old fart generation on here are up to speed with the UK secondary school standards, which according to the media would have everyone believe its deteriorated to a level that the old fart generation of primary school (11+) would have no difficulty passing (with some review) a subject from the GCSE or one of the A's or an A level.
From the drop down menu in the link below is a selection of the various UK past exam papers in almost every subject going.
AQA | Exams administration | Exams guidance | Find past papers and mark schemes
Give it a go ...

On your first paragraph, my response would be that us older posters (I thought that would include yourself but that's a guess) would encourage an optimistic 15-yr old to remain optimistic and encourage his/her ambition (in whatever field), BUT while gently channeling it in directions most likely to be constructive towards the 15-yr old's present goals AND without closing any doors on the near certainty that s/he will completely change her mind about her future rather soon.
I speak as the father of two ex-15 yr olds, both now in their 30s, both doing quite well and both, most importantly, still works in progress.

Aye, so true - then again not all of them in the age group 13 - 22, just 99% of them. By 30 most should start to get their act together. As we all know its 'blame the parents' for the way they have those 'fanciful ideas' giving them everything on a silver spoon.

Ignoring the source- here is an article on young employees and smart phones. I thought I'd post this for "The Gozit" just to take note:
Young employees 'damage career chances because they are glued to their smartphones and making social calls at work' | Daily Mail Online
