Earthquakes

I wanted to post in this thread of Oinks, but it's closed.

First Chile, then NZ, and now Japan. Next it's going to be us. I'm no expert, but there appears to be a circular pattern around the Pacific rim and I reckon that's how plate tectonics works.

Is everyone on the BC coast prepared? (I hope nobody here lives in Port Alberni)

Yes, I have a supply of canned goods, bottled water, a first aid kit and some of those foil blankets. And I was going to stock up on Chunky Soup clam chowder last weekend as they had a five for the price of four special going, but HID vetoed the purchase as apparently we're eating more healthfully at the moment. She can **** off if she thinks she'll steal my Zoodles now if a big earthquake hits.

It's called the Ring of Fire.

Yes, and I reckon the quakes are going around it clockwise - and we're in the way.

Like Oink, I've got lots of stuff in the cupboard. But I'm going to nip out this weekend to get some more beans, tuna, water, and canned veggies/soups. Can't be too prepared and at the very least it's a hedge against inflation.

You are perhaps in the way. The Pacific Plate seems to have got annoyed with the Nazca, Philippine and Indo-Australian Plates. If it gets pissed off with the North American Plate, you may have a bit of a problem.

I don't for one second wish that upon you.

I've also squirreled a few bottles of brandy away, although there aren't quite as many as left as there used to be. :(

Now that is a good idea. I might get a few cheap bottles - in an emergency there won't be any need for the good stuff.

Get the cheap stuff that comes in those smallish plastic bottles. I think they're called "Mickey's" over here for some unknown and can't be bothered to goolge reason. I also put a couple of board games in with the stuff, but just the ones I'm good at.

Excellent thinking. I have an unopened bottle of Remy Martin and a couple of decent single malts. I'll add then to the emergency supplies kit. My only concerns are:

a) we are supposed to be self-sufficient for three days. Will this be sufficient?
b) what will Mrs. JonboyE drink?

Re: Earthquakes

Whatever it is you all stock up with just make sure it floats and you have a large fisherman's net to fish it out of the tsunami water with.

I need to get a couple of wind up torches and radios. And while I'm not advocating it, I wouldn't be adverse to putting a .45 and a box of shells in the pack.
