Here in Red Deer they seem to use sand but we have been using salt in the garden so that could be part of her problem.

Got smaller size Muttluks today but haven't yet managed to keep them on, they just fall off as soon as she walks a few metres. I'm sure it doesn't help with the John Wayne walk she has in them.

May try to find some of the wax mentioned earlier but still cant help thinking she really should be in boots and the wax wont help keep her feet warm
