There's a whippet around here, he has a selection of coats including a parka type thing from designer-whippet-coats-that-cost-more-than-your-car.com. No boots though, when I asked his owner about the possibility I was derided, Ugg boots were suggested for my dog. He does look, and smell, rather as if he's made of Ugg.

One friend's mutt had his paws split by the cold. Boots wouldn't stay on either. The local pet shop stocked a specific product for dog's pawss, like a wax, to protect them. Bizarre but did the trick.
No idea what it was called.

Here in Red Deer they seem to use sand but we have been using salt in the garden so that could be part of her problem.

Got smaller size Muttluks today but haven't yet managed to keep them on, they just fall off as soon as she walks a few metres. I'm sure it doesn't help with the John Wayne walk she has in them.

May try to find some of the wax mentioned earlier but still cant help thinking she really should be in boots and the wax wont help keep her feet warm

Canadian dogs aren't necessarily the hardiest, just the smartest - I'm watching Littleist Hobo right now and I think he's going to defuse a bomb!
Nope, but he did manage to save everyone before it went off.

Salt is not ideal for grass, plants or concrete walkways. It can do a lot of damage.

I only use it on the deck and steps as it gets so slippery but the dog like us has to cross it to get to the garden

If you shovel the decks and path, it shouldn't get slippery this time of year as it's so dry. It's March/April when the ices starts...

Are the muttluks the ones with velcro around the top, do it it really tight, then they won't come off. I got cheaper things for Henry and as long as they are done up as though circulation will stop then they stay on lol

I shovel first but we've definitely had ice on the deck and steps, the kids have gone over a few times.

Yes they have a velcro strap and a long sort of elastic sock top but perhaps i'll try fastening then even tighter. Was going to return them for cheaper ones because if they're going to be a pain in the butt and keep coming off i'd rather have spent $25 instead of $65 for the privilege

Muttluks did have the velcro fasteners when my sister had them for our Cody. Fit is really important and you're right, they have to be fastened tight to stay on. I don't think any of them are too crazy about getting them put on (heaps of fun with an 85-lb high maintenance furball) but after wearing them a couple of times he realized that it stopped him from getting his toes all clogged up with balls of ice so he tolerated them ok and he never ever said no to a hike. It was kind of funny to watch him do the high step in them at first though.
