He was banned for a few weeks and decided enough was enough I think. He views occasionally but haven't seen a post since his ban was lifted.

I don't think he could keep away.

He is like Vinny Jones. It doesn't matter how many red cards you give him- he is indestructible.

2 weeks is possibly excessive- what actually happened?

??? The ban is not lifted till May 4th 3 pm...about 6 hours from now.

He was given a short ban in the past and came back afterwards; Personally I hope he will be back this time too, but will take on board what Ray was trying to get across about the more aggressive name calling.

Oh, you poor dear, I feel your pain, I really do

He would be a better mod for you, thats for sure

Im sure his libertarian streak would appeal to many members here, but than again if this was allowed to be a free for all I suspect that many of the silent majority of quieter, less confrontational members would leave in droves, taking the advertising hitcount forum lifeblood with them. If you want free for all posting with no holds barred there are plenty of other places on the internet you can post.

If someone is really that bad then there should be a lifetime ban. Period. Otherwise live and let live.

If posters here don't like what someone says then they should ignore the message. no one is 'putting a gun to their heads'.

As I said this 2 week persona non grata nonsense is rather childish.
Oh in an ideal world that would be great, Childish is about right with respect to much of the stuff mods end up dealing with. Personally I find it childish that people cant reign in their more boorish instincts on their own without the mods beingcalled upon to take action from time to time.

In dbds case there is some history, hence the longer ban. I dont think anyone (well, not too many) wants to see him gone for good, but if posters misbehave and others complain about certain posts, in the light of the previous ban the mods hands are tied to some extent. I can only speak for myself ,I try and be consistent so everyone knows what to expect.

Going straight to a permanent ban seems rather drastic to me...besides, this way gives people the chance to learn from their mistakes, and makes it less likely that posters will come back in another guise (which is a hanging offence if caught)

I came back after a break, but I don't like what I see. The name calling continues, the snippy comments etc. Some mods seem to have favourites too. I must be getting old, these fora just aren't what they used to be.

Nothing is

If people bring stuff to the mods attention we will make a judgment call, but ultimately often its just that, a judgment call. Cant get them all right, cant make all the people happy all the time, and to be honest dont have the time or inclination to wade into the more childish spats. A bit of name calling should be easy enough to ignore or rise above, if it become a pattern or a harrasment issue then action will be taken.

So the ban is lifted on May the fourth...otherwise known as Star Wars day.

Will we see the return of the jedi?

My remark was in the context of generating a new ID to circumvent a ban. I have no knowledge of the erudite, well informed and no doubt remarkably handsome poster you mention...
