Where i lived in my home town was certainly much cheaper than the prices you state, and had some rough areas. Still, we didn't suffer the like you did so for that i'm thankful.

As for me buying up property? I bought property and lived in them while i worked nearby. I just didn't want to sell and i certainly don't live in a bubble. Maybe my life choices have been lucky so far

I do feel for your living situation in the UK as i'd hate that BUT i stand firmly in that it is not the norm in UK suburbia. What's important, however, is you're comfortable where you are now

By my definition, a very nice area with 2 'extremely rough Council House Estates on the doorstep' isn't a very nice area, it's compromised. Should have moved to The Slaughters to escape the riff raff

Herons reach in blackpool is a well to do such like exspensive new housing estate. But then at the end of the build they decide to place community housing amongst the half million pound houses. Wtf.

The place is riddled with crime, and no one can do anything about it. They get rid of one set of robbing twats and a new bunch move in. What is or was the uk gov thinking. I heard it was mandontary on new build estates that they must include affordable housing. That is just wrong.

No i did not live there and knowing the area, never would.

Just build affordable housing and community housing together away from the better off. At least then they have to buy a car to go robbing.

I may be wrong but isn't that the same in Canada? Well, BC? Or maybe it's apartments.

Big fan of creating ghetos are you?

Big problem in my Dads neck of the wood is that there is no where for the younger generation of kids that grow up there to live cos they cant afford the serious property prices there. THATs why there is affordable housing mandated, if you dont do it then you end up with some pretty weird demographics becuase the kids that grow up in the "nice areas" cant afford to stay where their roots are.

The problem isnt the creation of affordable housing, its the fact that nothing seems to be able to be done to fight the twats that are doing the robbing and stealing and bringing the place down to their level.

Good point, had to be a logical reason i supose.

But what if they;

Build a police station on every new estate and have it manned 24~7. They used to, they were called police houses but they got rid of most of them.

People would complain that their taxes went up to pay for it....

And the scrotes would still get off with a slap on the wrist IF they were ever brought up on charges and convicted, so who knows how much difference it would make anyway.

I dont know whats gone wrong or how to fix it to be honest. To me its seems like a fundamental lack of respect .

They should replicate the Canadians. Turn a blind eye to children aged 12 and upwards smoking dope. The effect would leave lots of chilled out fat kids who can't be arsed to cause trouble

Sure beats pissed up chippy gobshites doesn't it...

To be honest all the kids of around that age I know (granted, its not more than a handful) are too busy with music and sports programs etc to be hanging around making trouble, they are all good kids heading towards becoming solid citizens. Some volunteer in the comunity in that canadian way. I dont doubt there are some wasters out there, I just dont know any. I hope my own kids are similarly distracted at that age.

It sure does

I was speaking with a teacher friend the other day who's fairly new to the occupation. She was telling me how shocked she was at the huge uptake (pardon the pun) of 13 to 16 year olds at her school having bum sex to retain their virginity and avoid pregnancy. Surely that's illegal.

Kids be crazy these days.

We've experienced no crime where we live now (too far away from everywhere for people to bother with us ) and have been here 5.5 years and never lock vehicles (only lock the house up if we happen to have other people's computers in the house to work on!) but we experienced plenty when we lived in the UK.

Last place was the outskirts of Chester. Not a rough area at all (the Chester/Mollington border) but not far enough away from other rough areas to stop our car(s) being stolen 3 times in 5 years and our house burgled once (although that was the same type of crime - they were disturbed in the process, so we can't be sure, but it looked likely they only wanted the car keys.)

Another time there our garage was broken into and various tools stolen and used to break into our neighbours' shed.

Previous to that we lived in Horsham, in W.Sussex, for 5 years and had property vandalism once.

Prior to that we lived in an obscure little village called Angmering (also W.Sussex) and our car's petrol tank was siphoned several times...

And don't get me started on spending 3 years in Bradford as a student

Also kids in the uk leave school at 15-16. My lads pals in the uk have all finished school now and all of them have false id's now. They get caah from mum n dad and go pub then chippy or kebab house and hang out till 2am. No job no school.

My lad has 3 more years yet, i think? But he is not even interested in anything like the above. If he was hanging with his mates in the uk im sure it would be differant. Pier presha an all. (thats blackpool pier presha lol)

I blame the parents, not the location

Harper has much to answer for, but surely even that isn't his fault
