I feel so ashamed, on my last trip to Canada I was approached by 5 hooded youths (hoods up) so I picked up an iron bar. 5 of the nicest guys I've ever met. Should have left my UK head at the airport.

That's not even a hoodie. That's a jumper and balaclava combo - criminal fashion circa 1975.

Hey, that's the same as what I've got on. Though I've not got the hood up right now as I'm not robbing people or out in the rain.

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Not...758/story.html http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/docz...oor/index.html It may open your eyes. No where in greater vancouver is free of gang-related violence. On the other hand, there's no need for paranoia either, but no, Chilliwack is not free from this any more than any other place. |
Re: Crime in your area
ive lived in brockley se london next to new cross and deptford..also lived in west london and essex...i now live in Edmonton..and i have never been a victim of crime (touch wood).
interestingly the numbers murdered each year in Canada & UK are similar but the population of the UK is much higher. |
Re: Crime in your area
Crime's everywhere, isn't it?
I live in what I suppose is a relatively affluent neighbourhood, 25 minutes drive out of town, 5 acre plots and pretty scenery. There's a lawyer next door, a senior city administrator across the street, exec for CN Rail 3 doors down, and next to him a house that last year was found with meth amphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, automatic weapons, an anti tank missile launcher, and 4 stolen vehicles in the workshop. Who knew? Recently there's been a spate of petty crime - compressors and tools stolen from garages, opportunistic stuff. I've never experienced anything directly myself, but really, crime's impossible to get away from entirely. |
