Drunk driving is an anti-social crime which occurs all over Canada on a daily basis, on a scale far, far in excess of the UK.
I guess people ignore facts if it suits them. |

Re: Crime in your area
Lived most of my life in Leicester, in 3 very (and I do mean very) bad council estates (the last one was the type of estate that other estate dwellers would list on their application for housing as "Any where but XXXX").
Parents on benefits if not dealing in something or other illegal, all with big flat screen tv's and 3 series BMW's so you know the sort. So i've come across many different types of crime. Here no not really - not to the extent back in the UK - but i'll say once again - I live in an area about as far removed from a council estate now - so it's not really a comparable is it. I seriously hope I wouldn't end up moving the other side of the world to live on "who's your daddy lane" again. |

Lived in 3 great areas of Vancouver, in fact some of the most affluent, Kits, Deep Cove and now SoMa.
Within 2 weeks of living in Kits, someone was shot 2 miles from us. Then in December 10 people were shot on Oak street, again about 20 min drive from where we lived. In Feb another man was shot in the same area. At some public gardens that we had visited. In March a man was shot in broad daylight in the afternoon outside the sky train station a few miles from my work, Recently a man was shot on the highway Surrey way. |

I totally agree with this. Whilst we don't know people personally affected by low level crime- we do sadly know people and familes seriously affected by RTAs here; we didn't in the UK. I had been going to add this to my previous post.
They are very carefull drink drvers here i suspect. Exept that guy on the news yesterday who was caught doing 200kmh drunk. |

Drunk driving rta's? I watch victims and scammers of the motor insurance claim culture here daily, and seldom do i come across an injury through an rta drunk driver. Bad driving yeh, loads of that.

No point really. Just saying that personally i do not see many if any victims of drink driving. When it was previously said that drink driving rta's are higher here in utopia.

So, you're quite happy to ignore drink-driving because you don't know any victims of it? Well, I personally don't know any victims of yob-style crime in the UK, therefore I conclude that the UK does not have a yob problem.
Did not say i ignored it, and i agree, too much off it goes on. Unsure why really with all the ride programmes and advertising on tv? But i have not seen it related to death or injury via rta, at work, as much as just crap driving, street racing and just plain old over speeding. |
