Crime in your area

Certainly it can be an excellent thing to get into - after all, it has enabled me to to take a retirement at 47 for a $100k investment, but it's not doing nothing.

So no research about the potential rental market. No research about property costs. Nothing about expenses, tax rules, where and how to advertise....no research on tenancy laws, no involvement on repairs or replacing equipment, no advertising for tenants, holding viewings, no assessing how lenient to be when rent not paid timeously...
How did we get here anyway; comparing bristol with moncton wasn't it. I guess it makes as much sense as comparing any other couple of random towns in Canada and the UK.

Here's some news from one of Canada's nicest neighbourhoods.
"Vandal smashes car windows
There was a car window smashing spree overnight.
Oak Bay police have received with over 30 reports from residents who woke up to find their car damaged. Only one theft occurred.
Police say the damage was only done to one side of the vehicles, leading them to speculate that somebody walked down the road smashing windows as they went.
They believe it happened between 1 and 4 am."
Adding: I heard this on a local news radio station... where they report any little tidbit that comes their way. I doubt this news will even make the local paper and people will have forgotten about it by 8.30pm tonight... and that's why there is 'less crime' in Canada.

well thats your opinion. I live and work here , i travel all over this country for work and pleasure and have visited some wonderful places. Ive also been to some places you wouldnt ever want to visit again , as no doubt you have too , and no doubt so have many other people in lots of other places around the world. Im not saying , and have never said , that everywhere you go in the UK you will walk into crime around every corner. If you think my comments are bullshit well thats down to you , but believe me there are plenty of others here that feel the same as i do. Maybe they're all speaking bullshit too .
I do agree with Bristol when he says that SOMETIMES you can upgrade life by moving to Canada. Now this would probably be the "lesser wanted" areas for immigrants which shows the relative cost of housing.

But seriously, yes!
This stuff is just considered 'one of those things'... bothersome for a bit, considered a fact of living amongst other human beings, then forgotten. Not written up in histrionic newspaper about "Civilization Going to teh Dogs!!!!!1".
Mass indifference can be nice.

Within 2 weeks of living in Kits, someone was shot 2 miles from us.
Then in December 10 people were shot on Oak street, again about 20 min drive from where we lived.
In Feb another man was shot in the same area. At some public gardens that we had visited.
In March a man was shot in broad daylight in the afternoon outside the sky train station a few miles from my work,
Recently a man was shot on the highway Surrey way.
Lived in Cheltenham for 11 years, the only thing shot there is clay pigeons.
Not moving back to the UK because of the shootings, the question for the pole was has it affected my life, well if wondering if I will caught as an innocent by stander in some drug related shoot out, then yes that crosses my mind occasionally here, and never did once in the UK.
