Re: Celebrity Croakers 2017
I'm much enjoying a debate on the formerly Gruaniad death thread. Someone has chosen Canadian singer Gord Downie (of a band called the Tragically Hip). The moderator has cautioned that google has hardly heard of him so there's a fair chance he won't be famous enough to be reported dead on the BBC.
"Is there a Canadian version of BBC? CBC? Might that be acceptable?" wonders a competitor. The moderator is having none of it: "No, otherwise this will devolve into an argument about how x was super-famous in Tajikistan, and the death was reported on their state broadcaster." Heh! |

Tragically Hip: Dying singer Gord Downie bids Canada farewell - BBC News
and it doesn't matter anyway, years ago I called BS on the BBC rule and it was changed to "the news". Which moderator cautioned you? |
Re: Celebrity Croakers 2017
Yeah, on here we've just said as long as it's reported by a major news network.
But I am pretty sure that Gord Downie will be reported on BBC, The Tragically Hip is not exactly a small indie band, yes they're Canadian but they're huge in the US as well. So I would put money on the fact that BBC will have it. |
