Do they cheer for the country (Canada) that is now their home and gave them the oppurtunity to move here and seek employment and live in harmony with others or the country (GB) they turned their backs on and deserted it like a rat on a sinking ship for better prospects or their OH told them to

You really have to ask?

Where I live and where I am from and born are two different things in my mind.

If Canada were playing someone I would cheer for them, if it's against England or GB, I would have to say I would cheer for where I was born.

I'm not a Canadian (unless you just filled the forms and added a stamp of approval for me :P)

Oink- I'm a Seppo, and while you might be right that second isn't "glorified", it is used as an excuse that some judge or official simply didn't like Yanks. In other words, the American tradition is if you don't win, whinge.

Oakvillian- fouls in the final minutes of basketball are simply a part of the game, an accepted strategy.

I know. And that's my point. If it's acceptable to game the rules in basketball (which a deliberate foul most certainly is) then why is it not acceptable to game the rules of a badminton tournament? IMHO neither instance should be allowed, but that's another pointless debate entirely...

how lovely for you. I think finishing second or third in the world is a pretty remarkable achievement, myself. Having been a sportist of sorts in my youth (and shared in some extremely disappointing defeats as well as some stunningly unexpected victories) I don't believe there's any disgrace at all in finishing second or third, if you were beaten by a stronger athlete, or team of athletes, on the day.

There's more disappointment and feeling of letting down yourself, your team and your supporters if you didn't perform to the best of your ability, but if you "left it all out there" and still didn't win, then tant pis, and better luck next time.

Whenever I lose a game of pool in a pub, I always make a point of checking the cue for hitherto unseen faults, thereby robbing my opponent of some of his glory.

Am I entitled to an American passport?
