Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.
I don't mind the concentration on Canadian athletes. This is Canada after all and I don't think there is anything wrong with this. I want to know how the Canadian athletes are doing. If you watch the NBC coverage it is hard to tell that any country other than the USA ever wins a medal. And British TV is just as guilty. I learned all about being a plucky loser when the UK was s**t at the Olympics back in the 60s and 70s.
What I find increasingly grating about the CTV coverage is their insistence of presenting human interest stories about the athletes. It is the bloody Olympics. I don't really care that so and so's mother used to get up at 4.30am to take their little darling to the pool/gym/dog track. I just want to watch some top class sport. |

I expect the concentration on their athletes fair enough, but its just they keep banging on about them on about them when they're not even competing in that particular event, round or even in remote contention.

I must confess to remembering that the BBC would show events, especially later rounds, semi's and final where no Brits were involved. Whilst some are shown like the biggies ( 100m etc ), I don't perceive it as as many as the Beeb would do.

The beeb is showing every single event apparently.

Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.

i tried retuning my TV before i left the UK to try and get them, but it never found them... iPlayer is decent enough for highlights anyway! |

Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.
It was the politics brought up in the opening ceremony that put me right off Canadian coverage. Really uncalled for. I can't remember all the comments, but there were some like "the decision not to hold two minutes silence for the fallen Israelis was wrong!" and a few others that really ran counter the spirit of the event.

Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.
And the female boxer who was a huge medal hope, she got a bye to the next round and was totally beaten up by the Chinese lady. Unfortunately for the directors, they had already made the touching drama skit featuring her mother, they still had to milk the story it was so awkward for mother and daughter.

Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.
Damn it, I am getting so touchy by CTV coverage now....when you watch the opening credits that feature the computer animated flag waving crowd next to London landmarks....there is a disproportionately large number of flag waving Canadians in the crowd, aaaaaargh!

That 800m final was ace.

Re: Canadian Olympic 'athletes'.
With GB in 3rd place and Canada in 31st, does this mean kids have better physical opportunities in the former compared to the latter?
Even if we combine both winter and summer medals, Canada are shitter overall. |

In Canada they think that bronze is the same as gold so they will say they are actually 11th (although this made them 2nd in 2010, even though they were really first). I don't really understand the logic myself.
Its like saying i have four quarters and they are worth more that four loonies. |
