So Steve, now you know what we're talking about (UK back bacon) - can you get that easily in Calgary?
I've not seen it here, though someone said Sobey's sell it, though I haven't been to investigate yet....

The supermarkets....
failing that there are a few expensive britsh food stores and out here in Belleville our local ethnic store can order most things if they are not in stock.
After nearly 11 years I cant say there is anything I particularly miss that I havent figured out how to make myself (ie a decent onion baji)

You have to specify, can't just say back bacon and expect UK style.
Not been to this store but apparently "English style" is available in Calgary for those who care.

I haven't checked recently to see if it's still there - not the same pack I hope
. It was actually packaged as English or British Back Bacon.

If it was expensive, I probably wouldn't bother either.... I don't mind the streaky stuff anyway. I buy packs of ready cooked (yes I'm lazy) streaky bacon from Costco - something like 50 slices for $11. Lasts me a long time and it's better stuff than the ones you get pre-cooked in the supermarket.

At the age of 21 i started doing international trucking all over Europe,behind the iron curtain and Scandinavia.. After having to sufer UK transport cafe food and motorway services nosh,eating in a Routier was like eating at the Ritz. I then lived 23 years in Switzerland, where i found the daily fair to be far far supperoir than any thing the UK had to offer.. now in Canada and the US i must admit the quality has dropped back to that of the UK

One irritating thing they do consistently here is add sugar (or rather fructose-sucrose) to everything including regular bread. I find you have to buy the made in-store or foreign bread to get it without sweetener. The diabetes time-bomb is well on its way. I wait for the day when there's bread with aspartame or artificial sweetener in bread to compensate (or maybe it's already here)
