So, back to my original question ..... is there anything in particular that you have replaced this food with?

Ah but Gremmie, thankfully you are unique, (just like the rest of us... ) What goes for one does not necessarily apply to all.

I was in a bookshop, in the cookbook section, and there was a book called 'British Food' or something... and a man looking in the same section recoiled with a "ugh!!!" when he saw that book.

Was that a compliment ????

At the age of 21 i started doing international trucking all over Europe, behind the iron curtain and Scandinavia.. After having to sufer UK transport cafe food and motorway services nosh, eating in a Routier was like eating at the Ritz. I then lived 23 years in Switzerland, where i found the daily fair to be far far supperoir than any thing the UK had to offer.. now in Canada and the US i must admit the quality has dropped back to that of the UK

Nothing more than a statement of fact...

I can see why some people would miss some british foods, just as some people miss british TV. On the other hand, some people get by just fine without either. Different strokes for different folks thats all.

It's more than that, the curing's different somehow and back bacon just isn't available. It seems though that making bacon (literally making bacon) is simple enough so I've ordered a pig and will give it a go.
