Re: Breakfast Choices
It wasn't breakfast, but there is a fabulous vegetarian cafe near us, I had lentil & egg curry for lunch the other day. It was delicious. There is just something about curried eggs... yum!!

Hard boiled eggs mashed well, a little salt, whole egg mayo and curry powder. Must use proper butter on the bread!

How much curry powder to mayo? I know I can trial and error but I'm easily put off by getting things too wrong. :o My SD made some and I could barely taste any curry.

At a rough guess I'd say two heaped teaspoons for 6 eggs, but that is a very rough guess! My mum's curried egg is too mild for me, she must have the same light touch as your SD :D |

As a beginner, maybe I'll try some mayo and curry and taste that. Then add the eggs.

The nature and potency of your curry powder is a variable. "Season to taste" I'm sure you'll do alright. I really enjoyed my egg salad sandwiches today, been ages since I've had them.

Don't do it that way you nut! Mash your eggs up, stir in enough mayo to bind them well, then add your salt and curry powder gradually until they're just right.
Those eggs with large leaf watercress in a sandwich is wonderful. |

Canada tends not to do such things though, although there's always Amazon. The local drugmart has eggs at half the cost of everywhere else at the weekend. I'll get some and experiment. |
Re: Breakfast Choices
Hash and eggs sunny side up. I trust everyone else has already had their sprouts today?

Re: Breakfast Choices
I had porridge with brown sugar and cream, (well, Half and Half).

Re: Breakfast Choices
Because I didn't drink it last night, I had a half pint of flat Big Rock Dunkelweisen, and the batter I put in the fridge to rest before making fried shrimp yesterday... and the sausage I took out to thaw last night, and about the right amount of cheese... so it's Welsh rarebit and battered sausage.

Re: Breakfast Choices
What's in a proper full English breakfast? I'm not impressed with some postmodern slap together non thinking versions you see all over the place. I'm especially appalled by the McDonaldsy hash brown triangles (when did chips stop being a thing for breakfast?). For me breakfast is: (one has to make allowances that I'm from the south of England so no black pudding or whippet noses) Two basted fried eggs, three rashers of nice bacon, a couple of herbed sausages, a fried tomato, baked beans that have been drained slightly so they're not that saucy, a combination of three types of sauteed mushrooms, chips and fried bread. All accompanied with a round of crusty toast, a mug of tea and the Daily Mirror newspaper or if I'm having breakfast on The Embankment, the latest copy of the journal, Theory, Culture & Society.

Re: Breakfast Choices
Fried bread and toast? You probably wiped your bum with pound notes too, flash git.
Chips were never a thing for a cooked breakfast. We always had tinned plum tomatoes, which are lovely with egg yolk and bean juice. |

I think Alan summed up a perfect breakfast..make sure that there is a breakwater between the eggs and the beans. |

[QUOTE=BristolUK;12803342 Toast (or even just bread) soaked in heated tinned tomatoes and fried egg on top. Sloppy and heavenly.[/QUOTE]
Well that's something new to try. I sometimes make omelets with canned tomatoes inside, sometimes cheese as well (ala old family) so I have an idea. |
Re: Breakfast Choices
HID has just said, with complete sincerity, that the reason I'm so insistent that chips should be included in a full English is because I grew up near France.

You can't see the egg because it was mixed in with the grated potatoes, fried diced bacon and onion and grated cheddar. The blob is 5% sour cream. I thought of having soft-boiled or poached eggs as well, but that would have been too much.

Re: Breakfast Choices
I have read too far back in this thread and now I must try curried eggs. Hope nobody has panic bought all the mayo.
