Re: Blizzard

It's been a good March so far. There's been a fair bit of melting although the snowbank in front of the house is still higher than it's ever been in 10 winters.

And we're due another blizzard on Sunday of up to 35 cm :( followed by another 15 cm Tuesday.

Two days ago there was nothing worse than 5 cm on a couple of days in the coming week and yesterday it was 15-20 cm forecast for Sunday.

Amazing how the forecast changes so much one day to the next.

Hopefully by the time Sunday arrives it will change back again.

Right now we're also forecast to get your Sunday blizzard on Monday. No amounts yet but ominous mutterings about "slow moving storm", "multiday event" and "significant snowfall". It's all about the track though - it it goes further offshore then we get less snow. If it just grazes Eastern Newfoundland we get lots and if it tracks up through Newfoundland to the West of us we get less snow and more rain. That's what's happened for most of the winter thus far.

Don't give up, this is the best time of the year!
  • Days are getting longer and sunnier.
  • No bugs.
  • Grass doesn't need cutting.
  • The birds, plants/flowers, trees and animals are just about to go crazy breeding and explode into action.
  • Colour is about to reappear on the landscape.
  • Right now, next winter couldn't be any further away.
  • Because of the recently suffered symptoms of winter, you'll appreciate spring, summer and fall way more than if you lived in a tropical climate.
  • In just a few weeks, it'll be hot and dry or hot and humid. This will last all the way into October.
  • This time of year draws an end to the five month long season of complaining by east-coasters. (Unlike the west-coasters, as their period of dissatisfaction usually lasts around nine months).

Southern Ontario. Definitely signs of improvement in the last week. The "great melt" has seen off roughly a foot of snow and grass and bushes are re- emerging. Forecast is pretty good. I sat outside to read on my front porch a couple of times and some twittering of the birdies heard. I feel for you Maritimers but surely this will be winters last gasp (hopefully not "last blast"). The sun is getting more powerful by the day so winter will be defeated!

This is the first winter where the grass cutting people have had to cut through the winter, usually they can go Nov to March without needing to cut it in the complex, but they have been coming about twice a month this winter.

It's 70F outside right now, I am hoping summer won't be a scorcher but I think it might be this year.

Here in South Ontario I am so glad the thaw has started as my water pipes have been frozen outside for the past couple of weeks and I am fortunately hooked up to my neighbour's hose pipe tap to get water into my house. The pipe in my driveway was completely renewed last year as there had been a leak in it when I bought my house so I thought all was going to be fine but although pipe is 5ft down there has been frost going down 7ft this year people say. I just hope it thaws out without any bursts as the thought of having the driveway dug up again does not bear thinking about.

I just did mine but now, at 28C, it's too hot to work outside. ;)

I'm sure you can find a couple of scrubbers.

All too effortlessly probably:thumbup:.....but he's not 'that' type of a man! Are you Ounk?

I went to Moncton last week Bristol - gosh your snow banks are even more impressive than ours! This weather does change all sorts of things on a long term basis, that one might not have initially thought might be problematic....over a long term it is thought provoking.
