Forgot to mention...that pic was before today's blizzard.

Today was the worst snow that we had...even all through last year. It hasn't stopped and is hurling down...the ploughs have been taken off the road as it's too dangerous for them to operate. It is really quite nasty here, and I believe the next storm is coming right in upon this storms coattails! Something to look forward to!

Kind of a catch 22, if housing prices fall the economy kind of falls apart, but housing becomes more affordable, but because the economy falls apart and people lose jobs, they can't buy because they have no income.

Only hope for us is to find a small town where housing is cheap and where we could find a job, and of course have it be in BC.

What happened to the Abbotsford idea? Can you not get disability benefits / healthcare in any other province in Canada?

We've had a relatively quiet winter this year. All those storms rolling through NB & NS have passed to the West of St John's so we've had rain rather than snow. That ended last week when we had 3 storms in a week dumping 50cm+ of snow. Driving home Friday night in whiteout conditions was not fun at all.
Tonight though is rain again and strong winds. At least you don't have to shovel it.;)

Abbotsford housing is still over what we could afford, maximum with 10% down we are looking at no more then 110,000 which isn't doable in any of the lower mainland city's that I am aware of. I think even Chilliwack if higher then that.

Every province is different when it comes to disability, and its not transferable between provinces, the second you leave BC the disability stops, and you have to apply in the new province, BC is the most liberal as far as I know in the fact they let you work to supplement your disability and realize that just because your disabled and can't work full-time doesn't mean you can't work part-time.

I know Alberta and Ontario have disability programs, but then New Foundland for example basically doesn't, they just place you general assistance and up the basic amount a bit, but nothing like BC.

Regardless you have to apply and be approved, and while BC may consider you disabled, Alberta or Ontario may not.

Same with CRA and disability tax credit, BC says we are disabled, but CRA doesn't so we don't get that tax credit.

Easily the worst in my time here.

I called for a tractor/snowblower a few years ago. The only reason was because my mother in law was moving here and she needed access to the garage for some storage. We needed to remove the snow that had accumulated all through winter to the end of March.

I'll need to call for one again rather than just a plow truck. This time it's because there just isn't room to push the snow and leave a parking space. I'm even doubtful the bottom of the steps would be accessible.

There's bound to be more snow to come. :(

From what I've read, unless you get disability via CPP, all you can get here is a $1000 pa allowance but only if you get Social Assistance/Welfare. You might be better off on welfare than a bit above.

There was a case in the paper where some guy was getting a pension from his former employment topped up by welfare. His pension went up a few $$ so it was about $5 more than he was getting with his top up. That $5 a month cost him the $1000 a year disability payment. Nice huh?

Shit. Just what you needed eh?

If it's any comfort (which I'm sure it's not) it's been colder than a witch's tit today where I am. **** it.

Good point.

Tenth winter here. I've consistently seen 250-280 cm as our 'normal' winter snowfall.

The bloke on CBC this morning said 54 cm fell yesterday - although I'm not sure falling would be a particularly accurate description given the multiple directions, including up, the stuff was blowing.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure this would be the biggest single storm - especially as it lasted 'only' around 14 hours. But he said it meant so far we'd had 345 cm and 320 was normal.

Discrepancy in 'normal' amounts aside, we do get at least half the winter's snow from 1st Feb onwards.

Frightening to think we've gone way past normal - even a high normal - and we're only two weeks in to the bigger half.

Even crazier when we had a non white xmas with no snow on the ground until well into January.

I've run out of #"&king asterisks.

Yeah...not good for driving but at least not much new snow. Maybe the existing snow will get blown away.

I love how on the radio this morning the advice is to stay home but at the same time they advise the Mall is hoping to open later, thereby encouraging people to have a reason to go out.

I remember last winter the announcer was also advising folk to stay home and in the very next sentence he announced a Seniors Discount Day at whatever store and said pop along today and save money.

Managed to get these with my laptop and screengrabs.

Taken from the top step again.

The truck is partly obscured by the ridge across the drive.

The apartment building is down the street a bit...the road is hidden by the snowbank on our side all the way down.

Lot's of snow.

I wouldn't mind a bit more snow, but its doubtful at this point we will get any.
