In the US anyhow pork the other white meat is a marketing saying from the pork industry to not have pork associated with the bad things of beef (I think pork is healthier then beef?) but the USDA defines all live stock as red meat, and defines pigs as live stock.

I don't think pork is an unhealthy for you as beef, seems to have less fat, and calories anyhow.

There used to be an ad on TV stating that pork was the 'other' white meat. I almost out poultry...as I knew someone would say that.

Well forget that then.

When that deal was announced there was zero indication of any stores closing, just Sobeys taking over some but not others. Those poor sods must have turned up for work at the Mapleton store yesterday and got bad news and it's already closed today

Default Stewing Beef

My stepdaughter came home with some stewing beef.

It was around $9 lb

I noticed the label said 'deluxe'

This is too good for stew isn't it?

never in a million years ever.....Shank is the best stewing beef ever.

local ethnic store has fresh 'beef shank' not frozen or packaged in plastic with the bone in $6.59KG ($2.99/Ib). always get a piece with the bone in. Cut away the beef, in a pot with the bone...

At the same store $8.80/kg ($3.99Ib)

So too good for stew then.

Good enough for something else like a curry or stroganoff?

Beef in beer?

too good for curry, but maybe & I say maybe Stroganoff (horrible stuff is that).

I'd prefer the good beef (never buy it though) cooked Shishkabab style (add on choice from..peppers, egplant, zucchini), would be pork instead - on a a tortilla wrap, lettuce, tomato, onion lots of the favourite dressing, side salad....alternate with rice or potato

Beef chuck stew cubes (no idea what the quality is or whatever, but its the only beef they offer in cubes for stew) is running 8 per pound right now around here.

Sirloin steaks are 8.99 per pound.

Ground beef regular is about 6.40 per pound.

Extra lean is about 6.99 per pound.

Beef is hands down the most exspensive meat around here, its become a luxury meat item.

Chicken and pork are all cheaper, you can get chicken things as low as 2.99 per pound.

Breasts still up there price wise, they sell them at a flat price though, currently $14 up from $11 dollars a couple months ago, you get on average 3 or 4 breasts for that price.

Pork chops (loin) run about 5.99 per pound.

Pork chops rib end about 4.99 per pound.

Its hard to budget these days, week to week prices have been going up a fair amount, less sales as well.

My creativity for meals is starting to run out...lol...

If I could eat pasta still, would be easy, but every time I have had pasta in the last couple of years, I get sick, stomach can't seem to handle it for some reason.

I just had a thought about the thread title. Yes, I should hope I buy it still. If it was moving I'd have to kill it.

Hi
Next time try taking an apple cider vinegar pill.
if it settles your stomach, then you might have the start of acid issues.
acid happened to me, didn't know what i had to do at the time, so it got a bit serious before i got it under control, with a stricter diet.
cheers

White flour substitutes

More healthful baking with white flour alternatives - The Washington Post

Cup flour of choice on a board make a hole in the centre drop in one egg mix till doughy. Put it in a bowl cover for a hour.

Out of the bowl, roll it out thin, cut to strips put in a pan of boiling water.

Serve when cooked. top with sauce of choice ....

cheese alternative: c&p'd

Cheese: You can make vegan cheese at home; check out our recipe section or The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak, available online at the PETA Mall. There are also plenty of convenient alternatives to cheese, such as the following, available at the grocery store or online:

• Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative by Follow Your Heart brand comes in mozzarella, nacho, Monterey jack, and cheddar flavors and contains no casein (a milk derivative). You’ll find it in natural food stores or online.
• Tofutti brand makes a wide variety of soy cheeses, including nondairy cream cheese, as well as vegan sour cream and ice cream.
• Replace cottage or ricotta cheese with crumbled, seasoned tofu.
• For parmesan cheese, try Soymage vegan parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast flakes.

Does the USDA have any credibility whatsoever? My perception is they'll sign off anything as long as it's a home grown product and the lobby pays the bill.

I have tried whole wheat pasta and same issue, but haven't tried gluten free as it's pretty pricey for what you get 5-6 dollars for a small box that might feed 2 people one maybe 2 meals...So have held off on trying it.

I do have stomach issues, I have acid reflux caused by a hiatal hernia and I take an acid reducer as needed to help control it.

I am still on the elimination phase of the diet, its hard to eliminate some foods as they are so good, like oranges but their an acidic food and cause issues.

May very well be the sauce in a pasta dish that is the issue since tomatoes are also acidic I think?

Maybe I'll try plain pasta with no sauce and see how it goes, never thought of it being the sauce that is the issue.
