I assume the deep-frying was just the same way as the video? Another thing I've never actually done!
P.S. - those chips also look amazing! I assume you deep fried them too?

I used an electric deep fryer.

Absolutely easy! I haven't watched the guy's batter video yet but my method is simple. I use about 3/4 cup of flour, a good rounded tsp of baking powder, same of cornstarch, large pinch of salt, 1/2 can of beer or so to nice gooey consistency. A tiny bit of flour or beer will correct for too thin or too thick. I kept the size and thickness of the patties under control, coated with cornstarch as per the vid so the batter sticks well, and 8 or 10 minutes was about right. There should be no stopping you now!

No egg in this batter?

Ah, my mum had one of them back in Scotland.

Too many kitchen appliances, so I don't intend to buy one just for the odd sausage supper :-) Haha. So I'll need to do it the old fashioned way.

Thanks :-)

Same here in Ottawa. Usually at shawarma places. I've been told it was exported to Lebanon and was quite popular.

It was available in my favourite Lebanese resto in Geneva as well, not on display but on the menu card.

Please don't say that Vimto is becoming the new Marmite?

We will fight them on the beaches, etc

Gosh I just found this post and now I'm drooling! I liked a sausage in batter...but Loved a Saveloy! God I'd love a Saveloy!

Now it's getting chillier, I too might try a deep fried sausage. I don't often deep fry things as I have never had much luck with my batter...it tends not to stick to the object I've popped in there, but gathers together in a corner of the chip basket...what am I doing wrong?

I'll defer to the maestro caretaker, but I've better results moistening the sausage, dunking that in cornflour/cornstarch before putting it into the wet batter. Seems to stick better.

Not a great result. I left it to my stepdaughter as she's on a bit of a roll with zucchini/carrot cake, bread and now doughnuts.

The sausages themselves (thin pork and beef breakfast ones) were quite tasteless and that didn't help.

We discovered my stepson had drunk the remaining bottle of beer without me knowing. SD used Sprite instead, which seemed a reasonable alternative according to various recipes.

The batter seemed the right consistency and stuck well. The oil was probably not fully hot (no thermometer) but it didn't take long to sizzle.

After 8 minutes, the batter was so brown that any longer would have made them look unappetising. But it was smooth and they looked more like corn dogs/pogos. No nice rough or fluffed up bits. There was one part where the batter stuck out - probably the part that was dripping off when put in the oil. That part was nice and crunchy.

The batter was nice enough taste-wise but like this

when it should have been more like this

Wrong because of Sprite rather than beer or because the oil wasn't hot enough?

Probably the oil temperature was to blame. But I am more concerned that an adult thought it acceptable to take the last beer in the house without ensuring a sufficiency for others. That's a tarring & feathering offence.

I suspect your batter was too thin.. or over mixed.

I noticed your avatar for the first time yesterday. I thought I was looking at some sort of tubby creature, with a big eye, big nose (obscuring another big eye) and funny sticky up hair.

My stepdaughter suddenly appeared and said "a Cat!"

Oh yes says I. I was looking at an eye and a nose, so she points out the moon and the branch. Smartarse. :frown:
