Batter Sausage (from fish & chip shop)???
Not been home in a couple of years, and I'm missing the taste of a sausage supper (as we called it in Scotland!).
I haven't found the sausage in batter menu option in any of the fish and chip shops here. Does anyone happen to know anywhere that does them? I live in the Durham Region just outside Toronto. Obviously Durham region would be ideal, but I'd be willing to travel a bit. Not holding out much hope after having a Google, but thought I'd ask if anyone knew :-) Thanks! |

I'll try anything once, twice if it doesn't hurt too much. I'm going to buy some breakfast sausages for this one.

In the UK, what is sold as cornflour (one word) would be called cornstarch here. It's the refined starch extracted from maize kernels, used as a thickening agent (and as a thixotropic liquid in countless school science experiments). Corn flour, as a North American understands it (two words), is finely milled cornmeal, the whole kernel of maize, used in making tortillas and other corn-based flatbreads. Corn bread, conversely, is usually made using cornmeal, typically ground much less finely than the corn flour used for other maize-based bread products. Confused yet? |

I'll use both and batter twice, dammit. :lol: My batter has cornstarch in it too, for crispy.
There was a man from Manchester used to be the greeter at Wholesale Club and he said corn wasn't fit for human consumption, derided it as pig feed. Just a reminder that corn and potatoes and tobacco all came from the Americas... just sayin'. |
