Maybe Vancouver guys don''t like them or something.....

Does the English accent from a girl work on North Americans the same way it does for a bloke? I get a lot of "I just love your accent" (even after 10 years in Canada) and one imagines, that if I weren't happily married, that could be useful in the dating game. Genuinely curious whether the same applies the other way round as it were.

If it wasn't for the accent I'd have no hope whatsoever, so it is useful for a guy. I don't think it quite works the other way around from what I've seen

There is something in that, and in bats' comment about "settling" too. It's not idea to have one's affections directed at a "potential" rather than an "actual" (partner)...especially when great distance is involved.

Perhaps he could look into Provincial Nomination (Trades) or FSW Trades if he really likes it here and you want to give it a try. Alternatively, could he come out on an IEC next year and you get a 2nd year if necessary?

As to not being able to meet people easily with your present work hours, my son has the same difficulty.

:)

Thats a great idea. I have told him about the immigration routes and the IEC although he will only have 2015 and 2016 to get them.

My hours are not great but i have to pay the bills especially here. It could be worse work at the end of the day

go back for a visit. Bring him out here to see Van. Then see where it goes. My brother lives in NZ with a much smaller population than we have here. He's married - to a girl - which in itself is amazing. If he can manage it, anyone can.

He is coming out next year for a visit :)

I do have an accent, apparently I sound very British (or Australian - depending on who I talk to).

I am not sure what Vancouver men like TBH, I am still trying to work that one out but at a guess: a lululemon advertisement poster (I hate that place with a passion!!)

It should do though. There is nothing sexier then a women with a British accent lol ;)

I honestly do think Canadian women dig British men more then the other way round. However it could be the fact that us British women know what we want and don't need a man by our side all the time lol. Over here in BC the women seem very clingy from what I have seen and heard

Haha well that depends where she's from ;) sadly I don't have much experience with single British women but I would probably tend to agree with you, my perception is that there will be no compromise if a guy meets 9 out of 10 of their expections.. its not perfect so not interested. I found Canadian girls were drawn in by the accent at least in part (and I'm not suggesting they're that simple to only be interested in that), tried a date or two if it was worth it they'd stick around and if it wasn't for them they moved on. The obvious other barrier was the risk that at the end of IEC there was no guarantee of being able to stay :(

You're lucky though, from my understanding a lot find the Irish women on IEC permits annoying

what would you do if you wanted to stay out in Canada permanently but there was someone in the UK you wanted to be with. What would you choose?

I'm not sure if it is an option of this person to come out here on a work visa as even though they have many years experience within the construction industry, they didn't go down the degree route.

There is always the option of meeting someone else but this is vancouver and it's almost impossible due to my job schedule. The men out here just want a 'good time' from what I have seen so far and it's amazing the number of 35 year old guys who just want a 'casual relationship' - why do they not want to find something that could potentially be long term?

At 30 years old, my priorities are changing and I do want to look into starting a family within the next 10 years. I do feel pressure and its deciding between wanting to be somewhere and wanting to be someone.

Erm...

I was 35 when I went lusting after a 36-year old French Canadian while back in the UK.

We were both basically just after a shag. Rebound (both separated).

Sixteen years later, I find myself where I am now and wearing a wedding ring.

It does.

Looking out the window and considering what I have to do at some point today makes me reflect on the wisdom of lust.

+1 :) If at the end of your IEC and you get a sponsorship for PR you could always marry him and sponsor him for PR ;)

That sounds familiar.

That was how my first marriage happened. 2 kids and a divorce later.....

There lies the problem.

Women just want me for my accent and my body.

I'm so much more than a sexual object.

I have anecdotes!

Good for him. We think it's cool.
