Not that I'm aware of. There is a 200 a day limit per licence so you need to take a few mates with you if you want to load up. If they are tiny or females with eggs we throw them back. Apparently, up at the top one of the fiords called Indian Arm, the prawns can be up to 10" in length.
Also, if we the have time, we might bomb over to VI (its about 25 mile trip) and fish the reefs for lingcod. They're ugly buggers but very tasty when battered and deep fried.

l was wondering if you went over to VI, do you fish around the gulf islands.
l was watching youtube l think maybe it was just the commercial guys who
have to measure them.
enjoy your fishing,

That looks like a nice haul, I counted 18 and a nice size too. I see your crab steamer is identical to mine, $70 at crappy tyre? Just remember not to leave the crab bodies in a leaky plastic bag in your back of your car for three days, otherwise you have to drive with your head out of the window for the next month.

Do your kids like to eat the crab?
As for us, crabbing is now really starting to pick up. I think it might be time to have a crab fest on the dock.

Yip - The $70 crappy tire one it is - I find the bloody timer a pain in the arse though - need to look at bypassing that
My eldest used to love crab and lobster when she was around 4 , she could shovel it back quicker than i could shell the legs - Nowadays I cant even get her to try it
The shells and crap that go along with it all are now in a garbage skip along way away from the house

Nothing of the sort. The big job is cleaning them and you've done splendid job with that. Do you use a knife? I clean mine on the dock now after the incident with the leakage in the car. I just smash them on the edge of the fish cleaning table and then rip their shoulders apart.

You naughty boy! I hope you keep to the rules on transportation.
i see lingcod is closed in areas 12 to 19 until 30 April 2012.
This is a good read if you know nothing about the regs in the area you intend fishing - like me! Is it worth the trip over for the few fish they are likely to let you keep post 30 Apr ?
But seriously, do the fishermen tend to stick to the rules, the fines look pretty heavy.

I eat them on the dock so thats not an issue. Really they want to you not to clean the crab at sea so they can check your catch. And yes as far as I know everyone sticks to the rules religiously. Everyone wants to protect the fishery. I've been stopped by DFO on the water a few times and been asked to produce my license and have them inspect my gear and catch. I'm always in compliance.

How much fuel are you using to get to and from van to fish the islands? Must cost a fair bit.

it's a winner for everyone if that is the case. i see when I get over I have to pay the higher licence fee for the 1st year, I suppose I really should be checking the employment sector for part time job at least.
