Re: another crap haircut
I just went to a cheapo salon not far from my house this morning and had a perfectly acceptable haircut. Hurray!!!
I just wanted my layers put back in and the split ends taking off and she did it perfectly well, and nice and quick too, much better job than I was getting in Texas. I have to say, the hair looks much better here than it did there, lots of colour variation and lots of different styles, you don't see a lot of short hair or even coloured hair where I was living there, just lots of long and blonde. The next test will be to see what they do with my eldests hair, hers is very long and naturally curly and all they seemed to be able to manage with that in Texas was one layer about an inch up from the bottom, and that was it. |

I think its all what you are used to. My sister lives in Vancouver and was furious when she had her hair cut in England because they ruined the cut. She loves her own hairdresser. So - there you go! Different strokes for different folks again.

Well if it makes you feel any better the barbers for the blokes are not much better either.
I went into my local barber on Saturday and asked for a grade 2 back and sides and a 4 on top. Don't know why I bothered really as he didn't use the attachments on his clippers and started shaving away. The thing is, he turned me away from the mirror so that I was facing other customers next in the queue? He was chatting away and was generally a nice bloke but I couldn't help but think he was paying too much attention to my side burns. He turns me around to face the mirror and I almost laughed out loud, what had he done to my hair. My sides were a grade 1, on top was a mixture of various grades and my sideburns were down to skin about 1" above my ear. My Wife was in fits of laughter and to add insult to injury he then hoovered my head to suck up all the hair. This was soooo funny to read.. my sides are aching..:lol::lol::lol: my 16 year old (highlighted/mcfly lookalike) son wasn't laughing so much though.. ;) |

What is it with hairdressers here? :curse:Why dont they understand that when I say I want my hair cut to shoulder length and layered it means just that?? It doesnt mean shoulder length when my shoulders are all hunched up by my ears!!:curse: Its the second time I have paid for a haircut since I have been here, last time was in October and they cut it far too short then. So this time I thought I wont say "take an inch off" as hairdressers inches are obviously much longer than anyone elses. I thought I'd cracked it by saying shoulder length. Pah, bastards. Do I have to wait till I go back to England on hols to get a decent cut????

Re: another crap haircut
I went for a trim and had 3 and half inches off.
New dark base colour with highlights turned in to + green and yellow, with orange streaks and bright redish base. Really pissed off. Went back and salon manager totally re-did it and was great. She wasn't able to stick it back on though :( Beware a canuk with scissors eh? Mrs M x |

Mrs M x but~now come on that can happen anywhere...can't it..?? i am yet to meet a woman in any country that has had a perfect cut and colour from every single salon she has ever been into no matter what country she is in. one can love a hairdresser..and the next person sitting in the chair can hate it. it depends on what we ourselves like and expect from our cut and colour aswell. i am particularly fussy because i have very longggg blonde hair...and it is a rare occasion i let anyone near it...but of course i have to at times...some i have been happy with ..and some i haven't..sometimes it is about us training them on what we want for our doo..not the other way around..some listen ..some dont'..find one that does...:) |

I used to use two different salons in London, both had a range of stylists who knew how to precision cut and how to cut very long hair. Choices here are limited to e.g. "Crystal" who went to Blah School of Aesthetics for twelve months and was released on her own recognizance with Walmart scissors and a colour by numbers manual, or "Brittany" who thinks its OK to produce an orange frazzled bleach job with uneven layers held together with Tresemme gel (99c + taxes for an oil tanker full) because she and her Mom have the same hair-do! My hair has been hacked about here to the point that I have lost about twelve inches in length and a fair bit of self confidence!

On the job and apprenticed - yes they are here as well as back there - it's still hit and miss. No matter where you live or what country. Evidently, Dingbat, everyone around you looks just as bad because there are no decent hairdressers anywhere, so at least you won't have to be embarrassed about your hairdo. Obviously I've been in cuckoo-land thinking my hair looks OK, and admiring anyone else's hairdo. My hairdresser is originally from Korea, not sure where she honed her skills but she's good. Oh, and I was recently back in the UK, my sister had a quick trim, shampoo and blow dry for a function we were going to on the night, and went home and did it again herself. Sound familiar? |

This is such an annoying cry - No good hairdo's in Canada - there's not one decent hairdresser in Canada - and on and on and on. It beggars belief that a whole country cannot produce a decent haircut. I've said it in another post - what happened to all the hairdressers who emigrated from the UK??? Are we to truly believe that only UK hairdressers are any good? And my gosh, I had my share of rotten hairdo's in the years I lived in the UK.
