another crap haircut

What is it with hairdressers here? :curse:Why dont they understand that when I say I want my hair cut to shoulder length and layered it means just that?? It doesnt mean shoulder length when my shoulders are all hunched up by my ears!!:curse: Its the second time I have paid for a haircut since I have been here, last time was in October and they cut it far too short then. So this time I thought I wont say "take an inch off" as hairdressers inches are obviously much longer than anyone elses. I thought I'd cracked it by saying shoulder length. Pah, bastards. Do I have to wait till I go back to England on hols to get a decent cut????

I know what you mean! I have been to about 6 different hairdressers since I have been here (4 years) and I thought I had found the perfect one! I went back to her about 4 times before she HACKED off my hair!! I had let it grow quite long and told her I wanted about 5 inches taken off...no more!!! She took off about 10, so from being half way down my back it was above my shoulders!!!!!!!

i had to poke my nose in when i saw the title of this thread coz we have the same problem here. some of the peeps haircuts esp the mens i see walking around, well, i'm sure i could do better with a pair of scissors and a pudding basin tbh :sneaky: :D

luckily 3 yrs ago a great scottish hairdresser and his partner moved over from aberdeen and opened up not too far from us...he is inundated with brits and locals.

good luck and hope you find someone soon :)

Ohhhhh Batty - you have my sympathy! I have NEVER had my hair cut in Canada - too scared to after seeing what they do to my Husband and kids....lol (it's long, and I have my daughter trim it for me - straight line is easy enough and she'll do it where I tell her to).

I remember some good recommendations being made on this forum not so long back. People who knew good hairstylists and/or European ones. Tried a search?

Having said that, my daughter had a reasonable cut done at "Angles" in West Hills (Calgary) for any locals that may be interested. She listened to what she wanted and actually did it for her.

I'm even more annoyed as the woman is the sister of a friend, so I couldnt make as much fuss as I would have liked. I just said "its shorter than I wanted"......................and looked sad, seriously pissed off. Still WTF I'm a middle aged fat woman and therefore invisible so no-one will notice anyway

OMG you are feeling v sorry for yourself!! She must have really done the job on you!

Can you perk it up with a headband or a bit of a new colour? There's nought to make you more upset than a bad haircut.

Um, guess she didn't get a tip

I reported last week to having, miraculously, found someone that listened to me. That was Angles in Cochrane - ask for Eva. I was delighted.

I was absolutely dreading this, having read all the previous hairdressing threads. Nightmare inducing and not to be read just before bedtime.

Batty - you have my utmost sympathies - don't know what else to suggest - problem is, once you've had a bad experience, it doesn't exactly fill you with confidence to go back or go somewhere else to get it sorted out !! And if there is not much of it left, it's hard to re-style. Only blessing is that it will be 'hat' weather soon ! Not much help at work though ... big hug :)

God I really sympathise, getting an awful haircut just makes you feel so crap.

I've not had my hair cut here yet and I am dreading it. My sister is a hairdresser in the UK, and as the hairdressers in Texas were also shocking, I would usually wait to have her do the re-style when she was visiting, and then let the hairdressers do a little trim every now and then, but she's not coming over now until next year and I really need my layers put back in.

It's very scary. The hairdressers in Texas were sometimes so bad, I would actually let my hubby trim my layers rather than let them do it as he did a better job, and he is now wonderful at applying colour ;)

Speaking from a purely professional point of view (I am a hairdresser:tounge_smile:). Find some pictures of styles you like, even one of yourself with a haircut you like. At least then she can see exactly the kind of thing you like, and hopefully you'll both be on the same the wavelength.

I hated my first haircut here and ended up cutting myself for a few months. I asked everyone who had a decent haircut where they went. I got the same reply a few times, a local salon. So booked an appointment and went in. I love my latest haircut, she did it really well, and i'm picky i hate to say.

I should open an Brit ex-pats salon shouldn't I? Only trouble is here in Alberta i have to get a licence, which means an exam.
