another crap haircut
#31
ooooh don't you lot get me started. I am so finicky about my hair and have had dozens of crap haircuts. I got so sick of paying $40-$50 for a cut I hated that today I went and got it cut at the esthetic training college. I only paid $12 and although it isn't the best haircut ever at least I don't feel as though I have been robbed of my money.

Ahhhh - all becomes clearer now - they list prices on the site:
Stylist
New Talent Cut = $45 (in other words crap?)
Stylist Cut = $55 (Not quite so crap?)
Senior Stylist Cut = $65 (Half decent?)
Master Stylist Cut = $75 (Decent?)
Educator Cut = $85 (No idea what this means - a DIY lesson maybe?..lol)

The Hair Butcherette I went to has these fancy certificates all round her chair space attesting variously to her "Senior Status" and "Advanced" status (her alarmingly advanced levels of fake and bake excepted) and her "Colourist Diploma(s)". She gets to charge the top rate, as a Senior Hair Butcherette. I took a picture in of my haircut from the same magazine that I originally picked it out from in the UK. I went from very long to shoulder length in the UK, but was so pleased with the cut, very easy to maintain after hauling around Crystal Gayle locks for years. The Hair Butcherette of Chilliwack's final offering was a cross between James May and Joan Collins.

LOL dingbat, you do make me

You can add your opinion here if you like (I just found it by accident whilst trying to find a web site for HWP's suggested place).

There are about four in Alberta that have been rated so far - three of 'em in Calgary.

Yeah I've noticed a lot of trailer park orange and various shades of BRASS also.
Luckily i bought enough hair colour with me to see me through until i can go back to the uk and get some more. I can't buy professional strength peroxide here though, unless i have the licence, vicious circle. (Someone kindly offered to get me some, so i'm sorted.) But it kinda made me think the brass and orange toned highlights could may well be the work of an unlicensed "hairdresser".
I'll have to look into passing the exam, i think!

Well if it makes you feel any better the barbers for the blokes are not much better either.
I went into my local barber on Saturday and asked for a grade 2 back and sides and a 4 on top. Don't know why I bothered really as he didn't use the attachments on his clippers and started shaving away.
The thing is, he turned me away from the mirror so that I was facing other customers next in the queue? He was chatting away and was generally a nice bloke but I couldn't help but think he was paying too much attention to my side burns.
He turns me around to face the mirror and I almost laughed out loud, what had he done to my hair. My sides were a grade 1, on top was a mixture of various grades and my sideburns were down to skin about 1" above my ear.
My Wife was in fits of laughter and to add insult to injury he then hoovered my head to suck up all the hair.

In a country where the Farrah Fawcett flick is still de rigeur, what do you expect?
I'm glad I'm not a woman.
I resent paying $15 (including tip) at my local First Choice for an all over #2.
If it was up to me, I'd be off to buy some clippers and saving myself a few bucks in the long run...
But as we men know, it's never really up to us, is it?
Much to the anger of the OH I used to do that in the UK. Eventually I got sick of the moaning and started going to the barbers' again.
The difference is, ladies, that even if you get a haircut that you think is crap, nobody else (including your Significant Other) will notice, much less likely say anything.

Holy cow!
I pay 15 bucks, tip included, at my local First Choice - and they actually cut my hair the way I want it, too. (Well, at least one of the girls does!

I think its all what you are used to. My sister lives in Vancouver and was furious when she had her hair cut in England because they ruined the cut. She loves her own hairdresser. So - there you go! Different strokes for different folks again.

The first haircut I had here was bad, uneven lengths, odd cut, and I paid $40odd for that. This time it was First Choice, $15 same as Wannabe. So although I dont like it much I have to admit its an OK cut.

What will you do with your millions?
