Well then, your friend must be right. Must be just horrible for her, living in Canada. Actually, I'm starting to wonder why anyone comes here at all. Bad haircuts; old fashioned clothes; fruit and veg no good; bad supermarkets; can/can't get marmite; too many immigrants; bed linens are crap; (let's not mention the vacation time, it's been done to death). And that's just in the more recent postings. It must all come as such a culture shock when the new immigrants finally land, and can you imagine their horror when they see the first resident with Canadian-hairdresser cut?? Must make them want to turn tail and run.

This isn't directed at you by the way, just a general moan about some peoples attitudes. I think a lot of it has to do with being brought up in the UK , coming from the 'Empire' and now all of a sudden when they arrive in Canada/Australia they are classed as immigrants. Chip on shoulder mentality, you know what I mean...

Go back and read your original post - you just said "here" several times, no mention of Toronto, and asked if you have to go back to England to get a decent haircut.
Why don't you concentrate on something positive about Canada for a change, and you'd likely feel better. When I first came here, the most gut-wrenching thing was the fact that I knew I would never see a familiar face when walking down the street. I didn't give a rat's-arse about haircuts, food, or whatever - all that part was an adventure in finding new stuff. And my Mum sent a care package of English chocolates every few months, so that kept me sweet!
I had to look up "pedant" to be sure of what you meant in this context. (I'm an ignoramus!): "Pedant, or pædant, is a person who is overly concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of learning. The corresponding (obsolete) female noun is pedantess.". Guess I'm a pedantess, then. I've done with learning!
Come on - laugh. Life's too short.

I've made plenty of positive comments about Canada. Or should I say Ontario, oe even Peterborough and Northumberland counties. How specific do I need to be?
I worked with several Aussies who complained about Britain all the time, the food, the weather, the hygiene, the beer. Of course they meant their experiences living in London. I shared a flat with a Canadian who hated all Britain too, based on living in Ealing. Its a thing that people do when away from home, when settling in.
If I or anyone else wants to complain about things that bug them, whether that day, that minute, or a more deep seared discontent then this forum is a good place to do it. It helps. You dont have to read what you dont like.

Yes i said "here", here meaning where I live, and said did i have to go back to england, as in thats where I am likely to be travelling to, not anywhere else in Canada, not even toronto. You assumed I meant all of Canada. You say thet people shouldnt criticise Canada because of what they see in their area of the country, but you praise call of canada based on your experiences in BC.

What is it with hairdressers here? :curse:Why dont they understand that when I say I want my hair cut to shoulder length and layered it means just that?? It doesnt mean shoulder length when my shoulders are all hunched up by my ears!!:curse: Its the second time I have paid for a haircut since I have been here, last time was in October and they cut it far too short then. So this time I thought I wont say "take an inch off" as hairdressers inches are obviously much longer than anyone elses. I thought I'd cracked it by saying shoulder length. Pah, bastards. Do I have to wait till I go back to England on hols to get a decent cut????
If you live in Medicine Hat i know a really good hairdresser my wife (i hate to admit it lol). Me being Ex army she has followed me around Uk and Germany and she does a good job. ive only ever seen her screw one color up and she spent the day fixing it.(she said afterwords something about the girl having fried hair two many chemicals and colors or something) she now works for a big hairdresser chain in the mall.
