Think of it as sales commission for brokering the deal between yourself and the chef and you'll be able to calm down a little.

You get it in the States too. It's just a little reminder about the tip. Nothing worth getting worked up about.

They don't necessarily count out the money right in front of you etc.......... 2/ Nope. I just don't need to be reminded to tip. And I do tip all the time. 3/ My son recently had a $8 meal and the waitress asked him if he needed change from the $20. That's trying it on no? |

Re: Annoying
I was having a conversation with one of my work colleagues, he used to be wait staff and we got on the subject of tips. He said he always asked what the tipout was before leaving a tip.
I asked what he meant as it sounds like it's different to what I experienced in the uk where the wait staff paid (it was either 3p or 5p) per plate to the kitchen. Here the wait staff/bar staff are expected to pay between 5% and 10% of their sales to the kitchen/non tip making staff. It surprised me as it's the same as in England, the wait staff are paid the lowest as they have higher tip earning potential and then the chefs get paid most. I think the pot washer needs to be paid as much as the chef - no clean pots - chef can't cook - no one gets served:blink: |

Oh, and for the record, we got YOUR message the first time. If the banter crosses a line or people report posts that break the rules we all agreed to abide by, then the moderators can and do take action, but more often than not we will be criticised for over reacting half the time anyway. If a particular poster or posters annoy you, then put them on the "ignore list" and you wont have to see their drivel again. |

Why should just this trade expect to be treated any better than any other, does any one tip the kid that stuffs your grocery bag at Costco ??? Do you tip the woman at the post office for licking the stamp and putting it on the envelope ?? When was the last time any of you went up to the truck driver and gave him a tip for delivering every thing you own. Never.
But your arguement is still crap. Restaurant owner agrees to pay staff better. The price of food get's raised to cover the cost. Now we all have to pay more...... Except service is now non-existant and now there is no incentive for the service to be better. All the beutiful girls who used to serve me have been replaced by chubby unshaven people who don't give a crap. And suddenly it's like I'm back in the UK....... |

When did you start telling people to do that? |
