As usual, it's only the pictures in your post that I understand. If you're in a state where it's customary for the client to pay the doctor and you don't pay, the doctor won't treat you next time or, at best, will treat you grudgingly. This will have no bearing on the number of people in the world.

Re: Annoying
My nan's adage is tip accordingly to those who can do you the most damage.
From My Old Man's a Dustman. "Some folks give tips at Christmas And some of them forget So when he [Lonnie Donegan's father] picks their bins up He spills some on the steps Now one old man got nasty And to the council wrote Next time my old man went 'round there He punched him up the throat." |

The analogy fails because doctors aren't paid by tips. The reference to intelligence fails because there was no famously clever man called Einsein. So, in a nutshell, no, I don't really know what you're on about. I do thank you though for the relative lack of graphics in that offering.

The income of someone who waits on tables in Canada is made up of tips to such an extent that the deemed income from tips is taxable whether received or not. It's not the case that the income from tips is a supplement, as it is in the UK, rather it's a basic part of the remuneration for the job. Knowing this, someone who eats in a restaurant and doesn't tip, or doesn't tip adequately, is effectively stealing from the staff. |

How is it when didning out or in a bar when you pay the waiter/waitress actually ask "do you want change?" when you pay? My usual response is yes and them leave them nothing. I mean what a nerve!! Or am I over reacting?
2/ You are tight. 3/ You'd be pissed off if your bill was 21 and you'd put down 40 and they didn't bring you change. They don't necessarily count out the money right in front of you etc.......... |

Your bartender and your dentist- both equally adept at alleviating pain. |

Knowing this, someone who eats in a restaurant and doesn't tip, or doesn't tip adequately, is effectively stealing from the staff. A former associate of mine was a server in downtown. Out of his daily revenue he had to pay 5% to kitchen staff and the busser- people who are not customer facing. So if he wasn't tipped sufficiently he effectively served a table at a loss. When large Chinese groups would come in. Not only would they run up a hefty bill of which 5% was noticeable but they would never tip. It used to drive all the servers nuts when this happened and it was always the short straw. |

Funny my wife thinks the same. I am used to very good service from Switzerland, so the " Hi Guys I'm Suzy your server tonight" non culture does not wash with me, and until I find a waiter/ess that has a basic grasp of the rudimentary art of their job I wont tip. ie automaticaly refill all the wine glasses, not serve from what ever side they happen to be standing, not clearing the table until the last person has finished ,not giving the bill until its requested, sitting down in our booth for a chat and to rest her feet ???? ( this happened at The Keg.
You live in Manitoba, if I recall correctly. I don't know exactly how many Michelin-starred restaurants there are in Manitoba, nor how many training schools there are for waiting staff, but I'd think not too many. Don't you think - as a sophisticated European gourmand - that it's a little shabby of you to expect Geneva standards of service from a waitress at Humpty's in the back of beyond, Manitoba? |

Look it's that tight grumpy English bugger who always starts complaining when his glass is half empty. Let's give him crap service again and some special source on his burger........ |

I'm somewhat of a de facto authority on The Keg and I can tell you that it is sometimes company policy, at the discretion of the manager, to have the servers sit down and have a little chat. And given that most of the waiting staff are attractive women in their twenties, I don't think its a policy that most people would find displeasing. |

Again this is the restaurant staffs fault for not demanding a proper wage not the customer's. It has nothing to do with location/ city or expecting any thing unreasonable. Why should just this trade expect to be treated any better than any other, does any one tip the kid that stuffs your grocery bag at Costco ??? Do you tip the woman at the post office for licking the stamp and putting it on the envelope ?? When was the last time any of you went up to the truck driver and gave him a tip for delivering every thing you own. Never.
