Re: Abduction in the Algarve
Your daughter is right to be upset with you. The chances of your child being abducted are vanishingly remote and you're letting the insane rantings of tabloid journalists force you into actions which have no logical basis.

I know what you say is right and i wasn't this paranoid with my eldest son and thankfully no harm ever came to him, maybe i'm being sexist but i think i worry more about something bad happing to my girls and maybe i do need to learn to chill out abit, Sue. |
Re: Abduction in the Algarve
It is a very sad situation and my heart goes out to finding the little girl but she has gone missing because of the parent's delinquency. Two GPs, whose average salary in the UK is 6 figures each and they do not have the intelligence or the money to take a nanny with them to look after the children whilst they are out enjoying themselves; I know plenty of professionals that do that.
If they want time by themselves, at such a young age, leave the children back with the relatives at home because they won't ever be able to remember the vacations. Why do they not see Europeans out at night with their children eating dinner? Having money and supposed intelligence- terrible- I think I would transfer from them if they were my GP. |

I'm sure they do, but if they're guilty of neglect then they should be punished according to the law. It would set a pretty crazy precedent not to.

Re: Abduction in the Algarve
I completely understand where everyone is coming from in laying the blame at the feet of the little girls parents but do you not feel that by doing that, we are moving our anger away from the sicko that has taken her?
I am all for making the parents take some responsibility for their actions but lets wait until Maddie is found and the person who took her is behind bars. Leaving their children alone was very wrong of the parents but abducting a child is far far worse, I have been scaning the papers online every day, hoping that Maddie will be found, I think that we should concentrate on finding her before we judge her parents. |
Re: Abduction in the Algarve
I think the whole thing is so incredibly sad.
We are all human and make decisions that feel perfectly ok and "safe" and 99.9% of the time they are but... "there but for the grace of god go I". The thing is that we want there to be someone to blame in this tabloid/media frenzied world. We NEED a good guy and a bad guy because the thought that BAD things can happen to GOOD people eats away at what we tell ourselves on a daily basis to get by. But the truth is we all at one time or another made a not-so-smart decision and been ok, the posts on this thread prove that. I would hate to be prosecuted for every mistake I've made. Another thing that interests me is why everyone keeps referring to this sicko as a "he" - so far some of the strongest evidence points to a woman (CCTV, etc). |
Re: Abduction in the Algarve
Maybe it because most of the time it is a man and in this case there is a woman involved.I dont care who takes a child thay should be locked away for good if not be put down like a dog.

Re: Abduction in the Algarve
I am stunned by the vitriol directed at the parents on this site (not just this thread, sadly). The bitter comments about their profession, how they should have known better, how they should have spent their enormous salaries on a babysitting service. I hope to God they or their family never happen upon this site.
I have two things you all might like to think about before you carry on bitching at and slagging off two desperate people: Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. There but for the grace of God go I. How about some sympathy and understanding and maybe something constructive like downloading the poster from the Sky news website and emailing it to everyone in your address book? Re: Abduction in the Algarve
This has made the news here. It was on my local radio station's news a couple of hours ago.

I, and many many other parents would not consider leaving our toddlers/kids at home whilst we went out for a meal. Just not a normal thing to do !!!!
I totally agree, I have also seen the pictures of the apartment and restaurant and it was a lot further away than I originally thought . It was not possible to see or hear what was going on. Nobody is perfect or claims to be but there are just some things that you know you cannot do. Leaving those children alone was one of those times. I don't think anybody wants to add to the McCanns pain, they will torture themselves enough without any input from us. |
