[QUOTE=prestonjohn;12633245]Bose extracted a promise from Hitler that the INA would only fight against the British, not the Russians and that's because Bose was a socialist, not a National Socialist. They fought in the Italian Campaign and in France. They fought honourably and were repatriated to India in 1946.[/QUOTE

They may not have foughg the British in Europe but did fight the British and their Indian allies in Burma.
The INA recruited by the Nazis did fight the French resistance where they were being used by the Nazis as occupation troops and suffered casualties in the fetreat following D day..
Fought honourabley ?
Regarded as being of little value by the Nazis who took away their arms.

EMR you are unable to read posts that the reply referred to.
Morpeth compared India to Hitler for wanting independence from European colonists.

I was NOT comparing British rule to that of the Nazis. I was asking Morpeth what would be his view if the UK had been invaded and occupied (Whoever it was that occupied). Is that so difficult for you to understand?

The mid 19th century was still the age of sail ,not fast vessels carrying tens thousands of tonnes of wheat in aid from the US etc , not available in the 19th century.
Bitish direct rule did not apply in the Princely states , what did they do to alleviate famines. In their kingdoms.
You excuse Indian rulers, some of the richest in the world but condemn the British governance of India.. where is your balance.
You underplay or ignore the huge scientific advances in the second half 20th century, that benefitted India , the billions in food aid simply because it does not suit your anti British all things Indian are better viewpoint...
Balance is missing from most of your posts,..

The scientific advances did not exist until the mid 60s .
So were not available during British rule.
Until then from 1947 onwards in the new post second workd war world India was the recipient of Billions of dollars worth if food aid..
little that alleviated famine was due to the actions of the Indian government but more to the generosity of all the nation's who provided aid.
It is in the historical record. Time you educated yourself.
In the mid 70s, India requested huge wheat shipments to offset a series of poor harvests.
look it up.

It just show your complete ignorance of facts not the first time, for what Nazi rule mean,t for the countries they occupied...

You used the phrase, " colonial genocide ", how is that not comparing British rule to the genocide enacted by the Nazis..

It was not "my phrase" I was quoting the author of the link, did you read the link?

(In my post I said "German" occupation----the German people were not all Nazis. It was an example to make Morpeth think about what foreign occupation meant)

You quoted it, therefore you must have agreed with it as you posted the link to support your views.
Stop wriggling.
Its obvious to all but the most ignorant what Nazi occupation mean,t .
India was not occupied,, it was colonised...
We're Canada, Australia, New Zealand in fact all the territories that made up the British empire " occupied " in your world.., remember there were few if any countries with a unified government or political structure in existence when the British arrived.
Certainly the geographical area of the sub continent did not come even close to that description...

Yes I agreed with the article. How on earth do you connect that with Morpeth's post, several posts later equating India with Nazis for wanting freedom from European Colonial occupation?

I am not discusding Morpeth but your ********** comparison with British rule and the genocides enacted by the Nazis in the countries they " occupied ".
Morpeth is old enough to respond to you with his own comments regarding your ******* posts.
You clearly have no idea what genocide is , just trying to score a cheap point, lacking in facts or any supporting references..

EMR ----let us explain to you in simple terms that you can understand.

1) The words "Colonial Genocide" were used by the author of the article about the Madras Famine. OK ---got that? (I will read the previous posts and find the reference).

2) Morpeth equated India with the Nazis in rescuing part of their country from colonial occupation.-----got that?

3) I asked Morpeth if he would have the same view if the UK was occupied by a foreign power after the last war-----got that?

I did not compare British rule with the Nazis.

Your argument fails every time you apply the standards of today with those which applied then.
it was 150 years ago, ,since that time globally untold millions have died from famines , are the British responsible for them.
How many millions would have died of starvstion in India sincs 1947, without the jnfrastructure built since thec1860s, if none of the scientific advances had not been made, which Indua benefitted from , if the billions in food aid had not been shpped to India..
Who would you have blamed then, the givernment in power,..

Did you use the phrase colonial genocide to support your argument yes or No.
Are you now saying that you do not agree with the links you use to support your arguments.
Make up your mind..

As no country was occupied or rescued from colonial occupation the invasion by India of the sovereign territory of another nation was no different from the invasions by Nazi Germany using the same lame Excuses for its actions,.
You constantly and conveniently ignore that , Nehru was desperate for something to restore his failing reputation.
Nothing to do with " freeing " the people of Goa just a politically convenient soft target.., using the same claims and reasoning that Hitler used to justify his invasion of Czech sovereign territory..

1) No I did not use those words in my 'discussion' with Morpeth. They were used by the author of this article but the link did not transfer totally.
https://rhythmprismpublishing.com/20...of-1876-india/

2) Goans (which Morpeth keeps referring to) were Indians-----brown/Hindu/Muslim------they were not Portuguese!* "Lame excuse"??????? So Portuguese invading was OK with you? The torture, the destruction of buildings, libraries was OK with you?
Salazar would not negotiate----why not? As I said above the British left with reasonable goodwill.

So you also along with Morpeth are equating India with Nazis. Would the Nazis have allowed any land they 'occupied ' to enter Parliament have the chance to be PM?

The person sitting in front of the TV a few feet from me, the ancestors of who fled from Goa to escape toture is actually Portuguese??? Thank you for telling me that ---I will let the children know!

Probably the majority of the world's population live in a territory that is not ruled by those who were there 100s of years ago..

Once again stop being so stupid and read posts.
I said that Nerhu used the same lame Excuses used by Hitler, in his case to boost his flagging reputation.
Remember then India could not feed itself and was relient on the aid from overseas ..
You say Salazar would not negotiate, so invasion was justified.
That was tgecreasoning behind Argentina's invasion of the Falklands.
Invasion is ZInvasion how ever many pink ribbons you want to wrap it up in.

EMR ----Could I suggest you read Rule 1 of this Forum.

Your remark about the worlds population I presume you are referring to USA, Australia, New Zealand where the original population were subdued and practically eliminated.

Goa was just used as a trading platform by Portugal. The population of Goa were not Portuguese people.
Look at a map of the world----where is Portugal----where is Goa?? The population were/are Indian they spoke Konkani and Marathi.

'Invasion'---- which invaders allow the 'invaded population' to immediately enter into their Government??
There was little resistance as the majority as I said were not Portuguese people.

I know what you said about Nehru. The timing may be as you said but not the reason.
The people living in the Falklands were British, they didn't get there by torturing/ brutalising the occupants the situation was quite different.

Again and again you make excuses for the Empire colonisation while at the same time 'accusing' Brexiters of being of the same mind.

Next time you go to India for a tour---go to Goa and look at the people ----ask yourself ---are they Indian or Portuguese!!
