Thread for 2231-79 (c# specialist)Skill Assessment is done but Application not lodged
Hello guys,
I am opening a thread to invite all 2231-79 (c# specialist) guys who are done with skill assessment before 8th of May 2010 but haven't lodged the application with DIAC yet. Please discuss any updates or thoughts about the future of 2231-79 (c# specialist) for ambiguities like... 1) Future of this ASCO code as par new SOL 2) validity of skill assessment which is already done (like would we need to re-assess as par new SOL etc) This thread will be useful in grouping 2231-79 (c# specialist) guys for sharing thoughts and experiences for the future of their VISA application which is yet to be made. Thank you. |

Re: ASCO 2231-79
Hi!
I am currently being assessed by the ACS for Network Security, which is no longer on the new SOL. However, I believe that I may fall under one of the new areas (e.g. ICT Business Analyst - I have all the skills listed on the description). Does anyone know whether it would be possible to get ACS to change the code under which I'm being assessed? Even if I got a valid 'network security' assessment at this point it would be useless to me. Many thanks! PalmTree2k |
Re: ASCO 2231-79
How old ASCO codes would be handled by ACS is still not announced. SO please wait and keep your fingers crossed.

Re: ASCO 2231-79
Hi Guys
I got below reply from Vetassess: "VETASSESS will not be issuing Skills Assessments in ANZSCO until the 1st of July, 2010. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) have advised that they will be publishing an ASCO-ANZSCO mapping table which will detail the conversion of occupations from ASCO to ANZSCO. Generally speaking, if an occupation has a direct match from ASCO to ANZSCO and VETASSESS are still the assessing authority for that occupation, applicants will not require a reassessment under the ANZSCO code" Looks like a mapping between ASCO-ANZCO would be published soon :) |

Re: ASCO 2231-79
I found a document from a link someone (wikp) kindly posted on POI that breaks down the ANZCO.
http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/subsc...06.2009&Latest For anyone in the 2231-79 groups this might be of some interest. I myself received +ve assessment from ACS as 2231-79 .NET Technologies Specialist so I was interested in 261312 Developer Programmer from the the new SOL. Under this classification I find... Alternative Titles * Applications Developer * ICT Developer * ICT Programmer And specialisations in this this group are... * Communications Programmer (Systems) * Database Developer * Database Programmer (Systems) * Network Programmer * Software Developer * Software Programmer I may be being optomistic, but surely .NET Technologies Specialist will just transfer straight into 261312 without need for re-assessment. When ACS summarised my experience in the letter I received from them, they actually used the term 'Software Developer'. Any thoughts anyone? Cheers |

Cheers ACS and DIAC don't seem to talk much as we could see with the MODL/CSL changes where IT applicants or at least the way in which the CSL, MODL and IT specialisations would interact were not fully considered and the ACS was very late to the party with explanations and clarifications, I worry that the ACS may not be able to resolve this without some pain for applicants. . Unlikely to be that simple, WA's mapping table would have you as a 261212 which is not on the new SOL list so you would lose out on a direct mapping, maybe reassessment in the more general developer category would be the way for you. Also ACS is notorious for just doing their own thing.

Re: ASCO 2231-79
The biggest problem with this is that DIAC has never carefully assessed IT occupations before but now they will, and I think they will assess many Java and .Net developers as working as web developers for certain periods, and if those periods coincide with the threshold recent work experience requirement (one year SOL work experience in the two years prior to application) or the specific work experience requirement (ie for the points test) then there will be problems. There may also be problems for 2231-79 Oracle people who are assessed by case officers as working as DBAs. Many 2231-79 Security people are also in trouble.

.Net and J2EE specialists are most of the times Web Developers. I do not see any complications at least for these two categories. My Opinion.

Cheers, George Lombard On the other hand you could argue that the ACS had become a MODL mill over the last couple of years and that most applicants do not find work in their assesed field. |
