Its targetted advertising - it works the same way on numerous websites, and has a complex system of taking keywords from webpages, so that would probably include usernames, along with location of the particular person reading it, and the requirements as specified by the advertiser - for instance if they know that the page is aimed at migrants to Canada and BUPA is having a campaign aimed at those, then BUPA could appear randomly on a lot of Canadian forum pages if no other ad fits the bill.
Advertisers also pay different amounts, so those that pay more get their ads appearing more often.
I'm sure there's a mroe scuientiic way of describing it, but that might give you an idea.
Of course you could always become a Premium Member and then you don't get ads at all

but you'll notice i am a premiem member, is that why i get the viagra ones?
no really, when i paid, it only got rid of the ads on the right, but they were ones that were p!issing me of the most, as i'd miss clicked them a few times.

Or use Firefox and AdBlockPlus as an add-on, then they never show in the first place!
