Really, it is an absolute farce that Canadian dual citizens effectively cannot enter the country (by air, without an eTA that a dual citizen cannot obtain) with their "other" passport, to accomodate American concerns. Yet Americans are not themselves subject to the eTA regime.

Dear wife and I have a friend from Australia visiting us soon - she was born in Australia to American parents, and had a US Passport as a child, but it is long expired.. well she booked travel through the US and found out she needed a very speedily issued emergency three month US passport to do that (apparently it is an actual offence to enter the US on a foreign passport if you have US citizenship). She will then need to enter and leave Canada using that US passport too.. and fly back to Australia with the Australian one!
