That's a fair point but who do I call ? The embassy won't deal in anything but emails and the consulate won't answer

Until Sep 29 when eTA is fully implemented you should be able to enter on your UK passport + short birth certificate. Do you have an expired Canadian passport from any point in your life you could also show??

Now feeling pensive! I have just sent all my original documents via track and trace (and yes it has been signed for - quite literally this morning!) to Canada House in Trafalgar Square!

They have been good as gold in the past, so here's hoping (at least I have 'spare' birth certs!)

Took me 10days of emailing them to admit to me that my application and cert were lost.

We arrived at 7pm on a Sunday night with a load of paper work for the kids completed by a lawyer which was totally wrong, me and eldest had U.K. Passports and can citizenship certs.

The immigration guy clearly didn't want to be there or start a complex case at this time the weekend so stamped us in as visitors under the requirement we get it sorted within the 6 months....which we did with 3 days to spare!!

Thanks for that, really interesting. I just don't want to get a visitors visa under false pretences, but have no problem if they want to give me one at immigration

How did you end up "sorting it"?

1. Service Canada doesn't issue birth certificates. You have to obtain them through Vital Stats in the province where you were born.

The lawyers applied for an extension (can't remember exactly what it was) to my husbands visa to include the kids.

Thinking about it, mine and eldest is kind of not sorted as we can't actually get passports currently! But we both have sins/healthcare so we are just keeping our heads down.

We won't be leaving the country/trying to re enter until it is sorted.

This response above & for the OP, my thoughts on the dilemma.

Since your travel document is the British Passport, it would state your 'place of birth' as Canada, and you have the short form Birth Certificate (BC), basically proves that you are Canadian, so worst case its the 6 mth visa in a British passport - it being the only travel document that you have, unless you have an old expired Canadian passport?.

Then do what you need to do when here to get the long form BC then the Canadian passport.

I dont think there is a need to confuse the CBSA person when you arrive, mentioning all about making an application in the UK for a Canadian passport, that the application got lost along with the long form BC.

Good luck with getting it sorted

Yup I stand corrected (I have read that many pages of info in the last few weeks I thought it was when its actually province based paperwork not Canada).

Whilst I completely agree, I leave in 3 weeks. It took 3 months to get my long birth cert from Ontario, plus it's now a 35 business day wait to get a Canadian passport now. So no chance of sorting anything before I move to Vancouver

Nothing surprises me with London. Trying to get permanent residence through spousal sponsorship. Decision made early May and request for two passport photos sent same day. But since then nothing! Managed to get a very helpful MP's assistant to send out feelers and back came the reply that "they are not saying that the haven't received the photos - just that at the moment they can't locate them' After 8 weeks?
