The reasons the Russians are being provided "visas on arrival" is they would not visit Goa otherwise. If the authorities can provide the Russians with this service why can't they do the same for the British or are they being selective?

I am sure more British would go to Goa if the authorities were more accommodating.

At the moment this "visa madness" is just driving British Tourists away.

The India/Goan Revenue's loss is going massive, it is such a shame they are not keeping up with the times as they are going to lose out big time! Maybe the loss of money it the only thing that will bring them to their senses one day.

Sunglow.

Commonsense for long termers would be 5 year visa. YES LEAVE EVERY 180 DAYS IF THAT IS WHAT THEY WISH. LESS WORK AND STRESS FOR EVERYBODY. But that is a logical point of view - and a woman's one.:sneaky:

Yes, Andy, there is conflicting information/advice everywhere as usual.

The VFS and HCI websites say that ALL visa surgeries are suspended, and ALL postal applications should go to Hayes.

Phone call to Edinburgh Consulate expressing my concerns about the then forthcoming postal strike, I was advised best solution for me was to go to my local daily visa surgery at the Asian Old Folks Drop In Centre.

Surprised, I contradicted this by saying that in the past these surgeries had only been held irregularly, for one day, usually four surgeries a year, and the websites said all cancelled.

Visited local surgery, through the lounge/diner where all the good folk ex of India were enjoying their tiffin, watching the Indian Parliament live on massive plasma TV, conversing in their native dialects and generally being well attended to out of the cold.

Yes, there is a handling centre there, on the second floor, branded VFS, and they courier the applications and passports across country to the only Consulate in Scotland, i.e. Edinburgh.

Is this another last minute change of policy, or just another load of misleading information put up on their websites, makes the whole process more time consuming, expensive and frustrating. Keeps the bureacrats in a job though.

When we went up to Nottingham we were taken to the one there and it was just the same as the one described. It is open to outsiders to buy lunch and we had a nice veggie meal for £3.50
We said if we lived there we would go in everyday if only for a warm :D

When I tried to do this once the April flights were available, I was told I had not read the small print properly and this could only be done while in India otherwise there would be an additional cost of £200 each. Needless to say I am going to wait and get it done as soon as I arrive.

I don't see it as a problem as the tourist visas are normally valid for 6 months and as I will not be getting it until early November, this will take me through to early May. In the worse case scenario that they only give us 3 month visas (and it is has never happened in the 7 years I have been going out there) we would just come home when the visa ran out.

Needless to say, I will not make the same mistake next year over booking tickets too early!

I booked direct with Jet Airways on the 'net' earlier in the year and have recently changed my husbands return flight from Feb to March. We are still in the UK and the change was made free of charge. I do not know who you are flying with but it is just as easy to book for yourself and pay with a credit card (so you get the money back should the company go bust!)

Even peasant glass if free booze all the way. They even left us the big
bottle of wine last year. Think they wanted OH to go to sleep.

Proper glasses, silver cutlery, proper plates the works!

As long as you behave yourselves it is free booze all the way, and the food is good.

K800Mer

I realised I made a mistake but I am used to planning well in advance and was worried that there would not be availability if I left it too late. I now realise this was totally wrong and next year may well book direct with the airline without going through an agent. There is a place in Candolim I know well - opposite the Mango - which will deal with Kingfisher for me for a nominal sum so I will ask them to do the change for me and I can then relax and enjoy my 5 month stay.

I have an appointment with the London visa office for 6 November so our visas should be valid until 2nd week in May - so plenty of return flights to choose from if April becomes difficult.

At least have a few ice cubes in it if you are being frugal with the mixer, or even giving the mixer a miss completely! ;)

P.S. - Sorry, no more off topic non-visa posts.
