that's the first case I heard of: were they stopped from boarding or turned back on arrival? - if so which airport?

They were stopped from boarding in Thailand but I do not know the airport, I am afraid I just commiserated with them when they finally arrived back but did not ask for the details but they did say about their visas being multiple entry but they had been told they would have been ok with double entry visas.

It is pretty normal for Bangkok airport to enquire if you have the correct visa ect to where you are travelling...so all looks good now!..you think just go on the journey Andy anyway and as its double entry we could return in 2 weeks/ 1 month whatever?.(within the visa validity )

yes, I also think that if the people denied boarding in Thailand had given an undertaking to pay their own return fares if refused entry in India then they would have had no problems on a multi-entry visa.

Went to the Wilton Road office today to hand over the passports and documents for our visas and I thought it might be a good idea to remind people that to get a childs visa you need, in addition to the completed application and declaration and the two 2"x 2" photographs, a photocopy of each of the parents passports. A letter from each parent to confirm that they agree to the issuing of the childs visa and a copy of the childs birth certificate showing both parents names. I forgot about the copies of the parents passports and did not have one of the passports with me but I was able to get a copy faxed to me at the VFS office.

I am in UK about to renew business visa which apparently they are only giving for 1 year? Seems to me that a tourist visa is more convenient and flexible now that 2 month restriction has been lifted? Have to go out 180 days anyway on business visa and it comes up at the same time of year. Feedback appreciated!

You can not work in India on a tourist visa so if you plan to do any work you would do better to stick with your business visa even though it costs more.

You cannot work with a Business Visa you need an Employment Visa. Now they have cancelled the two month restriction then a one year tourist visa will be fine but like a Business Visa you still need to leave after 180 days. A BV is for people who are making business connections whilst in India not for those who work as you will need to be tax registered.

Or for people who "bought" property using a business visa in the sad little hope that it just might be legal :D:D:D

No intention to work, or ever do business.....................

Just a scam that f**ked it up for those who wanted to live there, rather than make a fast buck on property speculation/have a tweeker holiday home based on lies. And now they pretend they believe all the cr@p they were told? Better clear the chimney for Father Christmas then?

Thank you all and Happy Christmas. xxx

2 year business visas are available & do not accept VFS Global telling you that you cannot apply for a 2 year business visa.

Have to go out 180 days anyway on business visa and it comes up at the same time of year.

if you receive a 1 or 2 year business visa, you DO NOT have to leave India after 180 days, AS LONG AS you register at the FRO/FRRO within 14 DAYS of arrival in India.

Page 5 on this MHA link:

http://mha.nic.in/foreigDiv/pdfs/FRR...on223.6.11.pdf

details the requirements for registration.

Extension of a business visa seems to be a more onerous process - the requirements are detailed further down in the above PDF link.

Feedback appreciated!

H.. all business visa's now have the stipulation that you cannot stay over 180days,that's why we have just returned from Thailand.

John,

That's very interesting: friends recently renewed their business visas - their previous few business visas have all had a stamp bearing the words "registration only required if stay exceeds 180 days" which was fine as they never quite stayed for 180 days.

The newly issued visa didn't have any "green" stamp at all - HOWEVER, in the 'standard' text on the visa, it stated "registration required within 14 days of arrival in India for visas valid for more than 180 days. The newly issued visas are valid for more than 180 days but the intended length of stay was significantly less than 180 days & our friends were actually concerned that they could be refused permission to leave India if they hadn't registered within 14 days of arrival.

Searching the MHA & Immigration India websites indicated that in the case of BUSINESS & ENTRY visas, registration within 14 days of arrival was only required IF the intended length of stay is in excess of 180 days.

Do you know if it is the case that the FRRO/FRO in Panjim would actually REFUSE to allow them to register meaning that they were not allowed to stay for more than 180 days even though the visa is valid for more than 180 days?

Regards

H.

Re: Visa help.

The FRO in Panjim may allow them to register, but i do not know of anyone who has tried because of all the documents required ,i think it's about 32 in total.

Our one year business visa was issued in June and it says that the stay must not exceed 180 days and i'm pretty sure it applies to all business visas that are now granted.
