Thought the rest of us didn't read stuff properly?
Lee, when you deal with local authorities, best to get things right?
Its Reis Magos not Margos, and assume you didn't apply to panch (individual "councillor" but either sarpanch "head councillor"or panchayat, actual combined council?
If you dont get things "spot on" in Goa, it will be used as an excuse to jerk you around. Good luck with your plans........

My point for you was that the overstamp he described was not the one that we 'discussed' in earlier posts (roughly #1000 onwards). The stamp as described by leegrand is just re-stating what has been pre-printed on ALL visas for around 10 years. As I recall, the stamp you were bemoaning the absence of was one saying 'Registration not required if stay does not exceed....'
an overstamp requiring registration if he intends to stay more than 180 days. THIS IS New compared with last year when there was no over stamp on the visas issued

Now who's not reading posts? I advised leegrand to register, I didn't say or suggest that you told him not to!

As I said during our previous discussion this is NOT new (see above) - you may recall that I asked you to post a scan of your visa to show how it was different to everyone else's - which you were not able to do. I also said that according to the (confusing) MHA rules you shouldn't have had to register and agreed that a stamp to say that would be useful. To repeat myself, the stamp leegrand describes is not that useful stamp.

I do not know how to scan my visa on this thread, but I assured you it had the words, "registration required within 14 days for all visas valid for more than 180 days". With no bl**dy overstamp whatsoever. (That was new then). Note only the words valid for no mention of stay time.
OH has overstamp and Lee's is different now. Apologies for anger but these same arguments go on as though I don't what is on my own visa. In fact I had an e-mail from Consulate saying that no over-stamps were being put. This has obviously changed.
I know about the MHA rules but FRO's were acting differently, if you went to them.
I had planned not to register but k800's post regarding a friend in similar circumstances not able to leave India for a week made me unwilling to risk it. (OH is in slightly frail health then, I didn't want him travelling back alone with luggage).
It is important to us not to have to go through the hassle we had to in Pune as we usually are not settled in one place for first 14 days.
We may have to go back any day now (hopefully) to complete a shared ancestral land deal and would only stay a week or so. The last thing we would want to do would be messing about with registration.
(The land issue has been going on for 25 years!!!! , not due to owners; would happily PM you the intricate details if interested).

Andy, I know it is not the old stamp, I asked Lee for the wording he gave it, I therefore learned that it was different. However---it does have 180 days on it This is different to my visa which has no overstamp at all. It is therefore new.

Just wondered, what star sign are you?
I'm a Sagitarian & I like a bloody good row - happy to argue that black's white if the mood takes me. . . . . . . . . . . .
Our business visas expire in November & I'm unsure as to what to do:
1) go really early & come back to the uk before the visas expire.
2) attempt to renew the business visas & hope that we don't get caught up in this registration within so many days of arrival that I've read about (think it happened to friends of 'jcbrum' a while back).
3) apply for 6 month business visas - the above shouldn't be a problem then.
4) sod it, save some cash & apply for a bog standard 6 month tourist visa (fits in with our travel plans anyway).
Decisions, decisions. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sometime before or in 2011 the overstamp was no longer put on 5yr X visas, this was also so in March this year when I tried to get clarification from the Consulate.
From what Lee has said an overstamp is now back on.
Which word you use change, different, new I don't know but because it is not his personal experience Andy doesnt seem to believe me!!
I don't have any experience of business visas, but if anyone has recently renewed theirs perhaps they can tell everyone whether the wretched overstamp regarding registration is there or not.
I have previously renewed a visa in advance, they just cancelled the old one I dont know if you can do this with your business visa.

This "should" be extremely good news for those of us that "should" be able to extend X and B visas here, but at present still being run by the same police officers but it does wipe out the Home Office which I believe was the nightmare!

Henceforth visa issues including extension of visas will no more be referred to the State Home Department.

A friend of ours having been to Dehli to extend his business visa, been through the mill with several sets of local police in Goa, handed over endless papers has now been told by the lady at FRO Panjim that under no circumstances will he get an extension. She said that the business had to have a turnover of at least 1 crore. So its back to the UK again. Thats the third person we know this year who has been refused an extension via Dehli and Goa.

No afaik the regulations do stipulate a minimum turnover of 1 crore for Business Visa, not difficult for many of the market traders at the Saturday Night market, formerly Ingo's

I recently meet an Austrian lady who has lived in Goa for the past 20 years and she has had 4 x 5yr B visas , but always returns to Austria to renew them as too much hassle here!

Now confirmed here in Goa at the FRO and Ministry in Panjim and Dehli..for a Business Visa Extension you have to have a business with a turn over of at least 1 crore. Other than that apply in your home country.

Lee - the people on here who really know their stuff when it comes to what you have to do for registration as a foreigner are AFD and msj5- both are very helpful on these matters, so if you are having difficulties, I am sure neitehr will mind me suggesting you pm one or the other of them to ask what the best way to approach things is, and to advise exactly what documents you should have prepared.
