BHCI were quite definite that they had not heard anything about a 3 month visa coming in for the UK (I think it already applies to Schengen countries) and they had been in day to day contact with MHA Delhi, however they did acknowledge that they would not necessarily be told. They were told that X visas would be available to property owners. It could be that 3 month visas with no 2-month out rule and X visas for longer stayers would suit most people quite well.

I have recently taken advice on this matter on behalf of a close friend.
Foreigners apparently can extend their x visas in India, however you must start the application to do so at least 8 - 10 weeks prior to the visa expiry date.
I was told that many have been refused extension purely because they have not applied until it is too late for the process to be done.
Apparently the process is that the application has to be done in the state in which you are mainly residing. The application then goes to the Delhi Home Ministry. International police checks get done, followed by local police checks, then it returns to the Home Ministry. Only the Home Minister can issue the extension. However some visas are marked as non extendable and these cannot be extended in India.
The FRO at Panjim are only empowered to grant up to a 7 day extension apparently.
This was confirmned by the person phoning the Home Ministry in my presence, which does tend to suggest there is the possibility of getting an 'in house' extension. That said, getting past the FRO personnel is another factor entirely.................

I wrote to the HCI in London and asked if x visas were being given to property owners. They replied to me asking me to attach a copy of the RBI permission for the purchase of the property in India along with the application for visa.

well for a couple of years now the registrars have been saying 'no registration without an RBI permission letter' and when asked for one the RBI have been saying 'no permission is needed if FN is resident as per FEMA and the registrar says 'we do not accept that you are resident without an RBI letter' - so here we are with the HCI taking us artound the same mulberry bush

Can anyone tell me when the 180 days runs from? I got my 2 year business visa last December, am returning to UK end of May and plan to return in September. Does the next 180 days run from my return or from the end of this May? Would be grateful for this forum's profound wisdom on these matters!
