Default River Princess

A lot of fuss is being made about one of the four shortlisted salvors being British, as if this somehow dignifies the whole farcical corrupt situation.

Well, by way of clarification, the company concerned is from USA, and the British company quoted is a very small sub-division. Their address is;
# UK Facility
Resolve Salvage & Fire (Europe)
Unit 1b, Marley Farm
Headcorn Road, Smarden
Ashford, Kent, TN27 8PJ
UK
Unit 1B on a farm in Kent? International salvage operation?

It looks to me like the American set-up, which happens to have a lot of employees with Indian names (and not Sitting Bull or Geronimo), is hiding behind the tiny UK operation?

All this was quickly available on Googlies, but the Goan Gov will not care if the Bribes are big enough - and to be in the shortlist, they presumably are?

One reason why this concerned me was that one of the first scapegoats in the Commonwealth (sic) Games post-mortem was a respectable UK company that had practiced tax avoidance according to the Dick-sh*ts in Dehli. Someone tried to point out that "avoidance" is legal, "evasion" is not, and what was the crime anyway?
Answer; They had started an Indian joint venture specifically to service the Games.........exactly as required by Indian law.
What a shower!

They put these tenders out every year for the removal of the RP and so far have found fault with every single one of them, and nothing happens, and they go back to sq1 with a new tender process every YEAR. Meanwhile the ship is completely breaking apart - in danger of collapsing and breaking in half now. Nothing will happen.

Perhaps God himself should put in a tender for the removal, as only nature will take away this ship - the Goans won't get their act together!

Julia. I and many others on this forum are all too familiar with the sad corrupt tale of this ship, predating its arrival on the beach by at least 7 years......

God will never tender for its removal as, whether you are a believer or not, you have to accept that His Omnipotence is inherently a decent bloke and would therfore have absolutely nothing to do with anything in Goa, bless him.

Perhaps the Big Man himself wouldn't remove it, in the sense it would not be struck by a bolt of late-monsoon lightning and just disappear! But gradually, this ship is being reclaimed to the sea. You can see it decomposing and weathering month-by-month and year-by-year now. - If God also created the sea, He is reclaiming the ship bit-by-bit anyway, no need to tender!

As far as private contractors go the value of the scrap is diminishing year-by-year as it corrodes. And conversely the cost for removal in human, monetary and environmental terms is becoming more.

Which is why no human would ever submit a successful tender for the removal and why God will! And is

Although the current trend on this forum seems to be to cut and paste the entire article.....

(not so long ago we were being told not to do that and to provide a link, I believe this was for copyright reasons?)

I am not going to follow this trend. Click on the link and read it with the disbelief I did.....

We have an ecological disaster, almost eleven years of inactivity, corruption at a level that is almost unbelievable, and now they are arguing about customs duty on the scrap??????

These chimps that call themselves politicians in Goa should be taken out and shot.

Opinionated? Too bl**dy right!

AND PROUD OF IT.

Even Agatha Christie couldnt have dreamt this one up ! The customs duty cant be more than a few thousand pounds at the most. Its been sitting there so long i woud have thought it qualified for a residency permit by now.

VJ's cruiser liner has just past it and gave it a broadside with the guns - didn't do any good.

Anyone else seen the NDTV programme on India's beaches and erosion? (It is on now). River Princess was discussed, Mr Kamat briefly interviewed, (had nothing sensible to say). Whole programme very interesting.

So, after weeks of saying the scrap would come ashore and be taken away landward, threats of hundred of lorries trundling around Candilonium, a whole load of shacks being to to close by end Jan to create a "Customs Point" for the scrap, etc etc, we now have a complete about face.....

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ow/7294662.cms

The thought "p*ss up in a brewery" comes to mind?

Incidentally, the whole Customs Duty issue is another blatant scam by the Goan politicians etc. There is NO DUTY liable as it depends on ownership, not registration, and the last two owners have been Goan.
The whole scam is just a smoke screen to allow these political criminals to filter off 3-4 crores (that is £ millions) straight into their own pockets, in broad daylight

Unbelievable, innit?

The River Princess is actually owned by the Goan government so your completely right in your assessment of the situation J5.How can the centre tax a ship that should in all rights qualify for residence anyway as its been on the beach for 10 years ? A Goan friend of mine takes tourists inside the ship at high tide as its now a tourist attraction in its own right.I wouldnt be surprised if he asks for compensation for loss of wages when it finally goes to the knackers yard

if the peeps who scrap the princess are anything like the builders we have had in, when it comes to getting rid of the debris all they want to do is spread it thinly over the neighbouring area, so with that in mind be prepared to spot the odd bit of random ship scattered aound Candolim and the like...
