Not all 'smokes' are ionisation detectors, some are 'optical' & contain no radiation whatsoever - the vast majority of ionisation detectors contain an extremely small amount of radiation.

I'd have thought there would have been far far more carcinogenic risk from both 'used' engine oils & insulation which would have probably contained asbestos.

Never mind battery acids & any number of other chemicals no doubt present on the RP.

Theres more radiation given off by an old Ingersoll watch with the illuminated dials and hands, than modern smoke detectors. It beggers belief when you look at the pollution that is every where in modern Goa and some one is concerned by some old smoke detectors in a marine wreck......next thing you know old Enfields will have to have filter tips on their exhausts to keep down the smoke !

Anyone running a book on why they won't be removing the wreck below waterline?

I didn`t know it when I originally posted but this is the floating platform that was attached to River Princess for cutting and reclamation purposes!

Its marooned close to Calangute steps!

If the TOI epaper was as good as the herald i`d post a picture.

Could be the new calangute floating Casino..................or Disco

I was down on the beach yesterday - it was SO HOT!!! - and it was great to see no remains of the R/Princess. All that was in sight was the floating crane (perhaps some pieces still under water??) and not another vessel. Not even a jetski!!! Just like the good old days.........

Back to UK in a week's time - can't wait for next season to see how beach may regenerate itself even more after the monsoon.

Perhaps quite a lot under water / buried in sand??? - that was always going to be the difficult (=unprofitable) part.

Is that why an "electro-magnetic survey" was being carried out yesterday/today?

Or is this just the first wriggle by the Goa Government to avoid paying the first contractor in 12 years (less 4 days) to actually be able to do the job.

Even though the price was extortionate, That price was accepted. They have done the job (presumably) so pay them.

Yes I guess so - apparently it was postponed due to underwater currents.
